Well, you see, one of the primary offenders went and bought the platform. And, like, everyone else just let him because money.
Even in pre-Elon 2019 days, Twitter themselves confirmed that moderation over racism would ban conservative leadership.

Not just let him. Forced him to buy it. He was fucking around and made a joke offer and the court decided we they really, really wanted him to own Twitter so badly they would require him to buy it.
See, he should have remembered he was an idiot fucking around before he signed a legally binding contract that he would do it. At that point the Twitter execs were bound to force the deal through, because they were obligated to maximize shareholder profits, and let's face it, there was never going to be another overpriced offer like that again.
