Budanov asks Canada to hand over 83,000 decommissioned rockets

Kyrylo Budanov, the chief of Ukraine's military intelligence (HUR), hopes that Canada could hand over to Ukraine tens of thousands of rockets that are awaiting demolition at one of the country's military bases.

More than 83,000 CRV7 ground attack rockets are warehoused at Canadian Forces Ammunition Depot Dundurn, south of Saskatoon. Canada no longer has any use for them, and has selected a private contractor to demolish the rockets.

Speaking with the Global News outlet, Budanov said donating the rockets will help Ukraine fend off Russian forces and save Canadian taxpayers the cost of destroying them.

However, given that CRV7s use solid fuel, they might still be considered safe if stored correctly and not exposed to moisture or contamination.

I would bet my next full paycheque that these things were not stored properly, and basically sat in a field in rural Saskatchewan with little more than a polyethylene tarp on them for the last 40 years.

Very easy to look the site up on Google maps. Looks adequately stored. When do I get to split the paycheque?

You don't buy them without proper storage, they were in a warehouse.

Just because its allegedly in a warehouse doesn't mean it was climate controlled or properly pest controlled. If you've spent any time working in or around the Canadian Federal government you will know that expenditure on facilities maintenance is almost zero, outside of the National Capital Region.

Sigh. You don't buy these without proper storage. Seriously why would you go through all the cost of manufacturing them ($$$) and not the cost of storing them properly (¢).

You don’t know a lot about people do you?

People will spend a ton on something and then completely skimp on storage

Because though a person is smart, people are stupid. Man made disasters are usually not because persons involved in it is stupid, but because the people involved in it are. Being in groups just seem to make all the members braindead.

My guy, this was done generations ago, maybe at the time of purchase in the 70s, they came with awesome storage. Now not so much. We can't even house most of our military personnel in non mold and fungus infested barracks or ships, you think they're going to make sure the obsolete soviet era missiles have nice sleeping quarters?

in the worst case (some types of) solid fuel can be milled and mixed with RDX, then used in making of thermobaric grenades of which Ukrainian army uses plenty

Maybe. But western governments, specifically the US, has hamstrung Ukraine's ability to win.

They've made incredible progress, and anything but continuing to make progress is a significant set back.

They're a bit desperate.
