Republican Sen. Jim Inhofe, a conservative firebrand known for his strong support of defense spending and his denial that human activity is responsible for the bulk of climate change, has died. He was 89.

Inhofe, a powerful fixture in Oklahoma politics for over six decades, died Tuesday morning after he had a stroke over the July Fourth holiday, his family said in a statement.

Inhofe, who was elected to a fifth Senate term in 2020, stepped down in early 2023.

He's a former senator; stepped down in 2023. Has already been replaced by MarkWayne Mullin.

With a name like Markwayne, it's painfully obvious this person is a Republican

He's the guy that challenged Union Rep Sean O'Brien to a fistfight during a senate hearing. Doesn't get much more Markwayne than that.

I was frankly shocked he didn't have a mullet

His name has a mullet

Marcus in the front, Wayne in the back.

Also pretty sure Mullin is just the verb form of mullet.

”Hey bruh, how's the radical new hair growin' in?"

"Aw you know, dude, it's mullin'."

I'm pretty sure O'Brian called him "Clownshoes".

It's a Boston thing, and Markwayne 100% deserves to be called that.

I'm still sad that Markwayne didn't get his fascist fucking teeth knocked out on the senate floor

He's also the guy in the famous photo of a pussy cowering in the capital building on January 6th. Whenever I hear about more of that guy's fucking mess, I think of that photo and am soothed a bit.

I originally had just "MarkWayne" but edited to add his surname lest he be confused with MarkWayne van der Snoot-Smythe (probably also a republican).

MarkWayne van der Snoot-Smythe

If anyone had a good reason to petition for a name change...

Heh. I needed a funny last name, so I thought "What's the opposite of 'MarkWayne'?"

It's always people named Jordan Jackson or Peter Pierce, and they always have the visage of someone who worked in a Roundup facility for 45 years.

at 88, or how they call it in the senate: early retirement
