I saw there was a thread about ad blocking on android but I was wondering the best methods for ad blocking that cover the entire phone if possible like in app ads and such as well.

Why limit yourself to just your phone, use a pi-hole and block ads for your whole network.

And when I’m out, I have a vpn running on the phone back to my home network and block ads on 4g/5g as well

It's DNS based ad blocking, isn't it? If so, it doesn't help with all kinds of ads.

YouTube still slips through the net unfortunately.

Yes, because their ads are served on the same server (googlevideo.com iirc) as the actual videos. Blocking that domain would block the videos too.

IOS and Brave browser auto blocks Youtube ads.

You can't do better than that on iOS. But the PiHole still goes a long way. It made web browsing from my phone tolerable when combined with the content blockers from Firefox Focus.

Sorry but that is false. Ad block pro on safari and yt ads are no more.

Safari content blockers don't cover the entire phone like the OP was asking about.

Op was asking for multiple things, one was yt. I mentioned adblock because it works well. Combined with pihole its quite good.

I wish vpn could always be enabled if possible atm.

Also, for ios the only thing that works for me on yt is safari + adblock pro

Use either NextDNS or adguard. They are DNS-level ad blockers, so a quick configuration of your DNS settings and ur good to go.

At system level you can use AdGuard DNS. Search in the settings app for DNS and set custom DNS to dns.adguard-dns.com

On Safari you can download the AdGuard app and configure it as a content blocker.

Proton VPN does block ads in apps. You'll need to pay for the ad blocking though.

I’ve been using 1Blocker for years. It used to be a one-time purchase, but now it’s free with many features requiring a subscription.

I do subscribe, though. It’s updated frequently, can block trackers in apps, and syncs settings across all my devices. Its comment block feature has probably kept me sane.

I use adguard and adguard VPN on my phone. I have an adguard home server set up on my home network so I use that when I’m at home instead. I don’t VPN into my network as others have suggested because I have Xfinity and I have limited monthly data.
