Could it also possibly be because they're giving the game out for free?

maybe but a lot of people already played it, and a lot didn't want to play an "ancient" game, with the update this changes

What was updated?

They added some bonus content including a mini-campaign originally bundled with other products, and added a bunch of QoL updates for modern systems (including but not limited to the Steam Deck).

It's actually pretty impressive. The change notes are really long for this.

Was trying to get my family the free copies yesterday and it was bugging out hard trying to complete the orders lol.
