Is there a way to block an entire instance?

Basiclly title. I can only see options to block a user or a community. Am I missing something or is there no such functionality?

Seems like right now the only way to block an instance is to use a defederated instance. I agree that it should be an option in the app.

Not yet, but I'm hoping it will come in the future.

On the desktop version it's possible via a greasmonkey script: https://greasyfork.org/en/scripts/469297-block-lemmy-instances

If that's the case, you wouldn't be limited to desktop.
Android user can also install the script using Firefox ,

FYI using this method with Mull & Tampermonkey

I'm using Fennec, comes with full add-on support as well. But I'd rather use Jerboa (or in the future, Sync) instead of the mobile browser.

Btw Kiwi Browser (on google play) is a Chromium alternative with browser plugins enabled, if someone prefers that over Mozilla.

Not at the moment.

There's an issue for it on GitHub, but it's unlikely to be implemented: https://github.com/LemmyNet/lemmy/issues/2397

I find their argument (from 2022) about switching instances very uncompelling. Now we have instances fully dedicated to things like NSFW. It makes it a lot simpler to allow folks to block instances than adding more reasons for users to encourage defederating. In the infamous Beehaw defederation announcement they said "all we have is a nuke" and that's true. It would be nice if users could selectively disable content they don't like without having to encourage their instance admins to use that nuke.

To be clear, I'm not saying Beehaw shouldn't have defederated or that this feature could've stopped it, I'm just saying their description of defederating as the nuclear option is accurate.

Why can't I see comments?

It seems only select posts actually let me see the comments. Even ones that I leave.

Currently, several servers, including Lemmy.world, have chosen to not update from 1.8.0.0 to 1.8.0.1. due to the removal of capchas. This will be fiyed in a few day with the release of 1.8.0.2.

Pretty funny how Jerboa turns your version numbers into links to IP addresses :-) I would prefer if it didn't do that, I imagine it's rarely the intention.
