Fitgirl Repacks on Linux
Hey maties, just a hypothetical question I thought I would pose. Has anyone tried installing Fitgirl (or any repack I guess) on Linux using Wine or any of the similar compatibility programs? I have a couple repacks I would like to run on my Linux (Fedora 32) laptop and wondered if such a thing was even possible.

Oh, right, wrong magazine.
Many work, some don't (didnt happen to me, many people say that they had problems with some releases). Personally, i would suggest downloading from cs.rin, and that way you dont need to install, just create a wineprefox and copy over the game files inside.
I have heard of cs.rin but don't really know how to get started with it sadly.
It looks more complicated than it is.

If you are an English speaker. Go to the English forums.
The main forum and steam content sharing are basically all you have to focus on.
Steam content sharing is games without any crack. Just clean steam files.
The main forum contains the discussions about the actual cracks. This is where the actual forum part comes in.
Use the search bar to find the game you want. (Eg. Fallout 4)
Some games have 10 pages, some have 30 and some have 100+.
You can search within a topic (Eg. Fallout 4) with the search bar. Like searching for pre-made working Linux versions. Or you can search manually by reading, go from either the first or last page and go from there.
Sometimes the crack will be seperate from the game and sometimes it will be included, it depends on who you download from.
I probably made it more confusing but I hope I helped a little.
Wow thanks for the info!
Some installers work, some don't. You may need to install different versions of .net runtime.
I’ve had a 100% hitrate installing Fitgirl repacks using lutris with this method: aHR0cHM6Ly95b3V0dWJlLmNvbS93YXRjaD92PWdWdWFiRWNrTU1BJmZlYXR1cmU9c2hhcmVi
That should be “using”, not “husking”.
There is an edit button
Edit: Jerbora has one
And yet, it didn’t appear when I tried that time. Seems hit and miss for me, or maybe one of the apps I’m bouncing between at the moment doesn’t have an Edit functionality yet. Thanks.
I just feed the installer to steam as a non steam game, run it, then point the library item at its own compat data folder (will generally be the most recent one) and boom. Off to the races with minimal effort
I did install a few fitgirl repacks. Most of them installed but some of them didn’t.
Fedora 32? Bro that's what 4 years old?
Yea apparently I forgot how to count. It is actually 38
detroit: become human repack ran on my fedora 38 machine without a problem but i can not guarantee all games will work, try them out for yourself
Yes, i installed one using bottles recently, works fine, no problems.
You can but sometimes you may run into an error where unarc.dll can't run and the programs don't install. I usually use Linuxrulez as those programs are made to work within Linux.
I've had a 100% success rate using bottles
I installed two fitgirl repacks yesterday though lutris without any problems. I just had to change the installation path in the fitgirl installer which was somehow incomplete and therefore not working
Not going to be a popular response, and it's ever only been for Sims 4, but I'll use a windows VM to install it there. Then I'll move the whole game folder over and let wine do the rest.
I meant to say Fedora 38 not 32. Thanks everyone for your comments. From the consensus it seems to be hit or miss which makes sense. Also I am adding this as a comment because I can't seem to figure out how to edit a post if possible. New Lemmy user here.
I haven't had an issue with the installers but I have had issues trying to get cracked games to run with their steam / epic emulators or undocumented .dll's that you need to override.
I install them normally, using whatever WINE that came with Garuda, and have the cheek to launch them as non Steam games with Proton.
The same is done with games from aHR0cHM6Ly9nb2ctZ2FtZXMudG8vCg
I've never had any issues. I just run the verify script then the setup.exe with "wine [program]", then add the installed game to lutris.

but i don't know if they are still active.
May be we can find/create alternatives on lemmy/kbin...
