Not super good. Feeling pretty alone - like I am there to help all of my friends and coworkers but no one is there for me.

I used to be the one to initiate meet-ups and parties, like pretty much every weekend with different friends. Then I kind of stopped and they all just disappeared, haven't heard a word from any of them for over a year.

They're all in the same city, still no kids or any other big commitments, but they just never message me.

Really sorry to hear that. But I feel that way as well at times. You’re not alone. Always have an ear if you ever just wanna vent it something.

No swimming today, to many time conflicts.

Got my teeth cleaned, only took 20 minutes. Fastest of my life. Scrape scrape scrape, polish, rinse.. no problems, your teeth are good. Done

The scraper was super loud, I can still hear ringing in my ears.

Meeting friends from out of town, doing some fancy pants dinner. There goes my diet, lol

Congratulations on the good teeth!

Thank you! This journey is long overdue, but it's good to get started

I was able to get some swimming in. The dentist was so fast. Only four out of my normal six laps. But the pool is crowded today. Somebody's doing a swimming lesson. So I don't want to get in the way

Had an okay day until after getting home I learned I was still in fight with my girlfriend from before going out to Trivia night together Wednesday evening over a Star Trek Voyager episode we watched together a long while back 😵‍💫 and then another one this evening over me using the word sure instead of yes or no 😵 to answer a question she asked

What is the problem with "sure"?

The only thing I can think of is that sure sounds less convinced than yes. Sure might mean something more like “ok whatever”. Or at least that’s what I gather from fights with previous partners.

My girlfriend explained it to me as well (I'm not a native speaker), that should be it

That's a tough spot to be in! Hopefully your relationship gets less tetchy soon!

“Sure” and “fine” both ask for trouble….

What part of the episode was the fight about?

There was an episode where Tom developed feelings for Kes but didn't want to act on them. Apparently people should be judge in their thoughts and feelings rather than decisions and actions 🤷‍♂️

I have to go into work early today to cover for someone as well as do my afternoon shift and day 3 of this is going I guess..

Today I had a talk with my boss. Apparently I'm not a good enough programmer to handle tasks alone and they don't want to keep me around to learn the languages they want.

He said, maybe if we find a project for you that you could handle. Then we won't fire you.

I'm just so done .. I knew that i just started and it's my first job and I don't have much experience but I was hopeful that they wanted to teach me stuff. Now it doesn't look like it anymore. I don't know what to do. Who would take someone who got fired after not even a year?

Ouch. It can be tough as a junior developer.

My advice is to keep asking questions when you get stuck.

As a senior dev, I don’t go out of my way to teach people, but it’s extremely gratifying when people come to me for advice or mentoring.

How the fuck are you supposed to start a new job when you have little experience? Just do a YouTube tutorial? I really thought that I would get thaught in this company but apparently not...

A lot of companies aren't prepared for junior or even mid level devs. I'm job hunting and the amount of senior and staff level positions out there compared to jr/mid is sobering. If you think it's salvageable, make a learning plan and share it with your boss. But it might be best to start leetcoding now. Best of luck, friend.

I never got that bit tbh. Where do they think the seniors come from?

Wish I knew so I could find a job there.

Real answer: it's cheaper to wait and hire senior levels (or outsource because you can't find qualified candidates) than to hire someone who needs training then may leave after you've trained them.

Instead of working today, we are all going to get pizza. We do that about once a month, but it's always fun to get paid to eat pizza instead of work.
