US District Judge Tanya Chutkan on Friday temporarily froze the gag order she issued on Donald Trump in the former president’s federal 2020 election subversion criminal case.

Yet again, Trump does anything he wants with impunity.

Edit: Wait, that gag order didn't exact any consequences anyway. Putting it on hold is "We aren't even allowed to tell him to stop doing whatever he wants."

to give the parties more time to brief her on the former president’s request to pause the order while his appeal of it plays out.

christ. its the guys whole schtick. appeal every ruling to the absolute stupidest level possible to delay.

he'll be dead before any of this matters

I fucking hate to be put in this situation, but every single wealthy person in America would use the same tactic, not just Trump. In criminal cases, defense lawyers file as many relevant motions as the client can afford, because each one gives the judge a chance to issue a ruling, and each ruling represents one more possible chance for the judge to do something that could be appealed.

It's stupid, but it's the best way for defense counsel to defend their client. It's just a lot of billable work for a small chance of improved outcome, so it is a tactic that is only available to wealthy people.

I want to be mad at the system for endlessly coddling this man, but if I’m being honest, I should be mad at myself for expecting anything else.

For roughly 1 week - which could have easily fit in CNN's headline.

Still too long.

I can't fix a slow legal system, but I can actively undermine the strategy of omitting key information to boost ad revenue and user engagement metrics. It's manipulative on CNN's part, and fuck both CNN and Trump for manipulating information for private gain.

Haha I was saying that 1 week is too long too freeze the gag order. I totally agree that CNN should have put the duration in the headline.

It would have ran right off the page! Blame the typesetters!

Nah, I hold Gutenberg personally responsible. I'm taking it right back to the source.
