Some instances fully defederated and some defederated specifically from the massive instances (mainly lemmy.world, lemmy.ml, and the shit just works one that I don’t remember where the periods go). The reasoning was the massive influx of users was causing performance issues and quality drop in posts. They plan to re-federate once things are more figured out.

Instance admins tend to block other instances that don't align with their countries legal system, personal viewpoints, or just because. Just wondering if I'm missing out on anything major.

You aren't limited to one instance ye know? You can use multiple instances.
Exactly why I'm asking
FWIW - lemmy.world can still see posts on the instances that defederated - they just can't see us. Like lemmy.world got shadowbanned
