Iowa’s new abortion ban was temporarily blocked from taking effect on Monday, restoring access to abortion in the state while the lawsuit moves forward.

Polk County District Court Judge Joseph Seidlin ruled that a lawsuit by abortion providers is likely to succeed, and the temporary injunction will remain in place for the duration of the lawsuit.

“The court will grant the temporary injunction requested here,” Seidlin wrote. “In doing so, it recognizes that there are good, honorable and intelligent people – morally, politically and legally – on both sides of this upsetting societal and constitutional dilemma.”

“The court believes it must follow current Iowa Supreme Court precedent and preserve the status quo ante while this litigation … moves forward,” Seidlin wrote.

The lawsuit was filed by Planned Parenthood of the Heartland, the Emma Goldman Clinic, and the ACLU of Iowa. They argued that the abortion ban was not constitutional under Iowa law.

Maybe we need a law that allows individuals who were punished or abused under a law deemed unconstitutional to sue the politicians that introduced, voted for, and signed the unconstitutional bill.

Maybe we just need to be pro choice and let women and parents and guardians imof those under 18 help make decisions that best for the mother, regardless of what some book or church says.

That Iowa governor Kim Reynolds is looking like a dame with her purple hair and pink coat.

wasn't the federal decision about abortion a while back supposed to force the States to enact legislation for/against it? seems like this is just the natural course of things

It was. This particular law was passed by the state but then blocked by roe v Wade. Once that fell, they tried to revive it but it was blocked again, they then challenged the block and lost. Now they pushed the same bill though the system and people are trying to block it again.

yeah - each State needs to figure it out, it never should have been a Federal issue in the first place

Sorry if you misunderstood. I was simply giving a short breakdown of what happened. The fact that it happened this way is absurd though.

There is absolutely no reason that one state should get to decide someone is less of a person while in that state. The fact that a basic right of bodily autonomy is up to each state is pretty stupid.
