TSMC opens first chip plant in Japan

KUMAMOTO, Japan/TAIPEI -- Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Co. has inaugurated its first plant in Japan, paving the way for it to begin making smartphone and auto-related chips for top local clients Sony and Renesas by the end of this year.
It's called an escape hatch.
In Japan no less. Great news!
All the best stuff is made in Japan!

What about the one in the US?
Progress on that plant is slow right now. The US government wants the majority of workers to be US citizens but TSMC says that can’t find enough skilled laborers.
