The news, general discussion, and memes are all here. But the really niche stuff that I used to enjoy discussing with strangers are all gone.
i kinda miss some of the chaos of the subs with rabid, unpredictable and paranoid users... like wallstreet bets.. not so much to participate but for entertainment itself

Usually reserved for articles that either have an egregiously misleading headline, or are multi-page articles designed to maximize ad impressions on the reader. So post titles may be something like "New law may impact Chicago drivers soon | No new law, 'left on red' is still illegal".
Thought about it, not sure I have the time though. Maybe with a few other people as a team.

However
As an instance admin having created a fuck ton of communities I think it would go like this
First you need to reach out to the current community mod.
Once contacted and if they agree to hand the community over to you you'll need to make sure you've posted in that community before or go ahead and make a test post once the mod agrees to give you the community.
REASON: lemmy functions are very limited. There's no options to just add anyone as a mod.
In order to add a Mod, that user needs to post in that community bc that's the only way to add them.
Basically, the posts have mod options on them. Idk why it's dumb honestly.
But if you don't have a post in their community they literally can't and have zero way to add you. So do that.
After that, you're a mod now. You'll have mod tools (use the voyager lemmy app, it has most if not all tools and self explanatory.)
Then you just go ahead and click their username and select 'Remove as a mod'
-Want to add a mod ?
Make sure a user has done step one, click on the three dots on a user's post in that community (mod options setting you get what I mean you'll see it) then there will be an option 'Apoint as a moderator'
Now if you want to move a community from one instance to ANOTHER INSTANCE will be more of a pain.
Because why tf would .ml be like "yea ok let me just help give you my community with all our users/activity/pists/engagement etc so i don't have a fuckin community anymore."
Really interesting to get varying approaches but often consensus on most relationship issues, even if they are fictional

I'm one of the admins on HC and we don't care if you post stuff from reddit into a community you made. Obviously don't plagiarize, but basically just share it on HC in your community. I mean why not ? What could it hurt ?
I encourage you to try it and see what you get out of it. Think of it like an experiment and if doesn't work that's fine no big deal.

But I've also changed my phone four times within the span of 4 years and another device I use also do you have an iPad or something that you can hook up to Wi-Fi doesn't have to be fancy maybe get something from a pawn shop I don't know I mean just giving ideas

There were/are some really good Asian and Asian-American communities on Reddit that didn't follow typical discourse. IYKYK.
Some of those groups are replicated on Lemmy, but are completely empty of content.
Until recently, TikTok was filling that role for me, but it seems it is starting to get more "appropriate" for American audiences as I think they are finally playing the game. Lots of "Jesus" and "white guy with microphone" popping up on my feed there now. The same thing happened to Youtube about 15 years ago so there's nothing new under the sun.
Video and microblogging also. Forums aren't the norm or in demand social media
Best of redditor updates was addictive. They filter out all the drama that is unfinished and leave you with more complete stories.
Other than that I miss that even lesser hobbies had active communities. You could ruin your life by clicking on the wrong thing and suddenly become so interested in carpet tufting that you buy a ton of gear. For the rest of your life you are taking photos of random carpets and discussing them.
Not on reddit or facebook anymore, kinda miss the Over 40 Skateboard and Snowboard communities.
