Israel 'didn't even respond' to truce proposal, as it continues bombing Lebanon

Israel's prime minister indicated that he "did not even respond" to proposals aimed at bringing about a temporary ceasefire between Israel and Hezbollah, as Israeli forces continued raining down air strikes on Lebanon.

On Thursday, US President Joe Biden and French President Emmanuel Macron published a joint statement calling for a 21-day truce, aimed at paving the way for broader negotiations for a permanent ceasefire.

Just hours later, however, Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu's office rejected the idea.

"The news about a ceasefire - not true. This is an American-French proposal, to which the prime minister did not even respond," his office said.

"The prime minister instructed the [Israeli army] to continue the fighting with full force, and according to the plans presented to them," it said, adding that hostilities would continue in Gaza too.

Why should it feel a need to respond? This administration and congress have shown nothing but breathless support for every illegal and inhuman action they’ve taken and imposed exactly zero meaningful consequences for violating the few feckless ‘red lines’ Biden has feigned to impose. They have nearly complete ideological and/or monetary capture of the administration and congress, and the US professional media is salivating about having more wars to cover. Both presidential candidates have promised no change in policy. Furthermore, the international community seems to be largely unwilling to meaningfully intervene and challenge US hegemony.

"Excuse me, Mr. Netanyahu, if it's not too much trouble, we were wondering if you would consider taking a break from bombing the children... Mr. Netanyahu?"

He obviously doesn't think anyone will do anything about it.

He's right, they probably won't.

Devils advocate.

How many peaces, truces, agreements in that area have ever meant something?

How many times has bombing a nations capital repeatedly in residential districts ever meant the desire for peace?

They have meant people not being killed, so I dunno, that's something?

As much as any treaties and agreements made anywhere else, if I had to guess.

Hardly any. I feel two might be optimistic.

What did Hezbollah say to this proposal? Are they ready to finally comply with UNSC resolution 1701.

Do you really give a flying fuck what Hezbollah says? Or are you asking to make sure the blame for the proposal to fail can be shifted to Hezbollah. The party to cease fire are the Israelites.

Hezbollah has attacked Israel non stop since October 8th 2023.

Looking at the source, it's very unclear to me how they count.

For example:

  1. Hezbollah launches 50 missiles from 10 locations at Israel at the same time. Is that 1 attack, 10, or 50?
  2. The IDF then bombs the 10 locations where the missiles were launched from. Is that 1 attack or 10?

In self defense, it's allowed to deny the attacker the ability to continue his attack. That means if you have a stack of 10 snow balls and throw one in my face, it's okay to destroy all 10 snow balls to stop the attack.

That would be 50 attacks from Hezbollah and 10 attacks from Israel. As you can see, Israel is responsible for over 80% of the the attacks

Israel has better intelligence, technology, weapons, more money, and a full fledged military.

Yes, they are the aggressor. Hezbollah only exists as blowback from Israel's previous invasions and occupation

Wouldn’t exist without the ayatollah in Iran. Their ideology is the same as Iran’s.

They would exist regardless of Iran, the exist because of Israel's Settler Colonialism, which Israel will never stop doing

Their ideology and finances would be different, if they were Arab nationalists or even Ba’athist. Islamists are fundamentally more difficult to deal with.

Islamists are not 'fundamentally more difficult to deal with' than any other religious ideology.

If you're issue is radicalization, then you should also be against Zionist aggression. The realities of Settler Colonialism, bombing civilians, stealing land, violent occupation, will inevitably radicalize those people to resist that violence by whatever means they can.

Israel has occupied Lebanese Golan Heights.

You might be confusing it with Southern Lebanon like I did. Although the continued occupation of the Syrian Golan Heights and Palestine are a certainly related to the continued existence of Hezbollah. They are against all Zionist Settler Colonialism, not just when it's done in Lebanon

it's Lebanese but Israel occupies it and claims it's Syrian. But Syria claims it's Lebanese. Don't ask me why Israel is occupying land which they claim belongs to Syria.

The Shebaa Farms, also spelled Sheba'a Farms (Arabic: مزارع شبعا, Mazāri' Šib‘ā; Hebrew: חוות שבעא Havot Sheba‘a), also known as Mount Dov (Hebrew: הר דב, romanized: Har Dov), is a strip of land on the Lebanese–Syrian border and currently occupied by Israel. Lebanon claims the Shebaa farms as its own territory, and Syria agrees with this position. However, Israel claims the territory belongs to Syria. This dispute plays a significant role in contemporary Israel–Lebanon relations.
