3rd party discord client?
Once upon a time, ripcord was my favorite to use, unfortunately its been dead and dormant for over 2 years now. Id love to know if anybody knows any similar client (for example: be it in having custom design, or being super lightweight)
(yes, i know, you dont have to say i should use matrix or something else)
Check out Armcord. It's a 3rd party client with many customization choices (mainly due to the fact that it bundles Vencord and Shelter client mods).
If this is "completely open source" and "doesn't rely on the original Discord client in any way" (from their front page) how can mods for the official client be compatible?
Oh wait, their faq clarifies things: it's an electron wrapper for the official web client, not a completely open source client that doesn't rely on the official one as they claim.

Ripcord is really unique and it's still my favorite third party client. Abaddon might be worth trying. Unfortunately, most other third party clients are wrappers.

Get enough stubborn "someone"s with their own problems to solve, and I guess eventually you'll end up with the Arch wiki lol

tried out abaddon but it tells me it couldnt fetch the build number which increases chances of being flagged their github has one related issue with no solution

Yeah think so but with extra privacy hardening features and especially useful Screensharing on Wayland! I don't know if there is an alternative to it for Screensharing on wayland
Well it works better than the native and I can't share screen on discord on the browser so it works for me.
The flatpak crashes for me since some time sadly. I'm just using a basic chromium browser and their (shitty) webapp
The appimage seems solid for me thus far, installed through this handy tool.
I use Discordo for work. It's pure CLI/TUI and it doesn't have all the features of Discord but I think that's the point.
Most of the "third party clients" being suggested here are wrappers for the official client. I use purple-discord. If you don't care about voice/video this works well enough.
Vencord is nice, not a 3rd party though

I tried vesktop two days ago, after using discord-screenaudio for over a year, and I'm in love with it. Check it out guys, it's really good.
How about a third party service that's separate entirely? Matrix may be what your looking for

Not really a "foss bro" issue, more an issue of privacy guys not understanding software-freedom as its own concern separate from privacy concerns. Same with all the "third party clients" that are just wrappers/mods for the first party client.
There are actual third party discord clients, I use one myself. And, while discord is certainly a terrible service that we should try to lessen our dependency on, it's unfortunate that we have friends and communities on that service and we can certainly use discord with a free client while we make the transition. For me, I use an IRC bridge wherever possible, but bridges generally need to be set up by the "server" "owner" so it's not always an option.
Reading comprehension might be a general problem on reddit and reddit-offshoots (which lemmy certainly is) as I see fans of proprietary software going into free software communities to recommend their favorite proprietary apps. It's certainly not limited to "foss bros."
