I don't know, I haven't played the game yet.

You should, it's a great game.

I just got the first one on a new game binge. I played it for like a minute and didn't get the greatest impression of it at all.

Whats the hook?

A lot like Vampire Survivor, the hook is that it starts pretty simple and it ramps the difficulty every minute that passes but you're constantly able to buy more items with powerful effects. By 15 minutes in it's a starting to be overwhelming and by 30 minutes in you are doing a LOT of clicking and there's countless hordes of enemies but because of the particular combination of items you've picked up, you're still alive and every shot causes a chain reaction of other effects. Or you get a combination of items that doesn't mesh terribly well and something gets a lucky shot in and you're dead at minute 22 with no warning.

Also the items are mysterious and you're always finding totally new ones you've never seen before and their powers are wildly different. The story of the game is more told in the item descriptions you can only read in the loading menu than any other single place. I've played 1000s of hours and still refer to the wiki before trying to tell the "story" of the game.

The intricate level designs, complex item interactions, and the rocking soundtrack are also worth mentioning because they are substantially above average for a game of this type.

Did you get the very first one or the remaster? I would recommend starting with the second part as it is easier to get into

Probably the first one. I don't remember seeing remaster listed on it. I read that the second game is harder so I intentionally got number one first.

The second one is a bit harder as it is 3d but it is equally as fun. the remaster is called risk of rain returns

It gets really fun about a half hour in, unfortunately

I'm going to give it a longer try, for sure. It just seemed... Idk, liked a java game at first pass. Not knocking it at all.

But I also got Rain World at the same time and that hooked me immediately. Completely different types of games, I know.

Ngl, it feeling like a Java game was part of what kept me around 😆

The fun is where you get into a flow on it and it becomes almost meditative. Haven't played it in about 4 years so maybe this weekend is a good excuse to dust it off!

Yeah it’s the perfect game to listen to an audiobook or something while playing

Big memories of playing it for a few hours and listening to tons of music

Yeah, it’s great for that. Florence + the Machine and the original one is a pairing up there with binding of Isaac to Johnny Cash’s Hurt or Kerbal Space Program to Rush

I just like listening to the music of the game which is already very relaxing

Aren't we the rain in game? When we fall from space in our drop pods; and aren't we a risk to everything in our path?

I always thought that was the rhyme and reasoning of the title.

Edit: spelling and formatting.

Too bad it is owned by Gearbox now.

I’ve heard good things about Risk of Rain Returns. Hopefully they can turn the IP into another hit like BattleBorn

Gearbox has already worked on risk of rain, they were probably the best choice to hand it over to.

I guess they'll just have to wait to find out then

Haven't played it either
