[SOLVED] Still can't sign up for Beehaw 😞🐝

Lemdee@lemmy.world to Beehaw Support@beehaw.org – 23 points –

[SOLVED] - Lemmy doesn't notify you if the username is taken and just hangs indefinitely if it is taken. Just an fyi to anybody else who's having issues signing up for a Lemmy instance.

Title says it all. I've tried multiple browsers, restarting, flushing dns and everything else I can think to troubleshoot this on my end. Whenever I try to sign up it just hangs infinitely on the page that I took a screenshot of, with the submit button spinning.

How can I join this side of lemmy? Lemmy.world is pretty good but I would like to be in an instance that is defederated from lemmygrad please lol

What? You signed in today? https://beehaw.org/u/Dee

I am very confused.

That's not me O_o

I guess somebody already took Dee on beehaw, I'll try again with another username but I didn't get any error that the username was taken already. Thank you for linking that, maybe it was that simple haha

Ah yeah, Lemmy doesn't say when a username is taken..

Was that really the problem all along?

It seems to have gone through now πŸ€¦β€β™€οΈ

That's a little frustrating (not your fault or any of the mods) I would really like to have that added to the roadmap for Lemmy in the future. The fun of alpha software lol

Thank you for taking the time to comment and help clear this up though. Is there an FAQ I missed that says there's no error for taken usernames?

According to their Github issue tracker, they're aware and are working to fix it (based on the pull request)!

The lemmy software is still a bit rough. It can only get better though, we all just need a little patience (or to contribute if we're able) 😊

As far as I know, I don't believe there's an FAQ that explains these issues. I could be wrong though!

Thank you for the additional info from the links! But yeah, definitely some kinks in the software but I'm really enjoying it and the community that's gathered here. I'll definitely be contributing more soon! πŸ˜„

It's been approved. Thank you for your patience.

Thank you very much!

Now to catch up with my lemmy.world account in comments and submissions.

I’m having a similar problem. Submitted to join ~1.5 days ago and see that the account is created (same username as this account). But when I try to login it just spins forever.

I know someone who is experiencing this as well. I don't have an answer, but this may be an issue that affects multiple users

Test out if the username exists by typing in the url to the profile.

https://beehaw.org/u/username

Also if you sign up the profile will exist before you are approved and can log in. And if you are rejected the user will forever be taken and not usable.

Dang, we really need a better looking 404 page. And to not allow that sort of username enumeration.

It would be very nice if there was a process to reclaim these users at some point.

I've tried several times to create an account. Username meldroc.

When I fill out the form and click to submit, it gives me an eternal spinny, no feedback on whether anything's happening or if it's just stuck.

Try to login, only a spinny.

What am I doing wrong?

I'd try another username, idk if this is you but it looks like that one already exists. That's what was happening with me anyway.

I just tried creating an account again, username meldroc42. Currently got the spinny...

I am having a similar issue. Used the same name as this (answers_to_kv). I saw that my username exists and the account was created yesterday (the day I made it) but I am unable to log in :/ any advice?

Yeah same. I looked up my username and it was created the same day I created it. Tried logging and can’t progress past the loading icon.

Lemmy creates the account before being approved - it is quite silly. If you can give me the username, I can give it a look, we're currently going through all the backlog for people we missed.

@Lionir
Ahh I see, no worries! The username should be:
MoodyCat

Edit: just wanted to confirm that I was able to login!

Same. Made an account there Saturday, after checking for another user with the same name. For a 404 error, tried to sign up, and got stuck with a spinner when trying to log in.

Likewise here -- set up a username with this same username, checking the user page shows it created on the same day I set it up, and just get stuck with a spinning icon when trying to log in. Frustrating. Worse, I got that spinner so bad when trying to sign up that I don't know if it actually created the account with the first time I clicked to register (and never went through), or the first time it actually went through, much later in the day. I was using a password manager and I have no clue what that first attempt might have had. Even worse, I decided not to try it with an e-mail in the form, as that wasn't necessary and the one I'd tried to submit with an email address also gave me the spinning icon, so I have no way to re-set the password if it's the first option.

I've been having the same issue. It goes on loading state forever and no feedback. Tried multiple usernames and none of them have been taken, so that isn't the problem.

No kidding. Tried a few times to create an account. Even wrote in my 9 year old reddit account as proof that I am not a bot, no luck. Kinda given up at this point.

First post, thanks for this thread. I tried signing up using mobile browser, but the button was spinning forever. Checking the user page helped confirm that it was not created, so I switched to sign up with desktop browser and got a "Application accepted" message, then the user page was created!

Having the similar issues, the user account appears to exist, but when spins when i try to logon.
