Go to the doctor and don't pay the bill!

I wish. I had to get my appendix removed, and they charged me 50k and had collections on my ass even though I was sending them everything I could.

That's the ticket price, they expect you to haggle them down by at least 30k

This always gets said whenever I bring this up, but I did. I was on the phone constantly, and I even went there in person. They didn't budge. I think it's a reddit myth started by a few people who either had good luck or were part of the in-group that gets this treatment.

part of the in-group that gets this treatment.

White, good-looking, male, between the ages of 25-44 and/or has personal relationships with the administration/owners of the hospital through family.

Bingo! I'm normally part of the out-group for being poor, gay, and unpopular -- but I never realized how drastically different people can be treated based on appearance until I started dating my now-husband who is Hispanic and has darker skin

One of the most obvious experiences is going into any higher-end store and observing the staff's reaction and treatment of me vs. him. Nordstrom has been one of the worst offenders, to the point that we no longer even go in there.

But it absolutely happens in healthcare, too!

pffft, haggle? I just look at them and they award me for my buildted diffrentness, classoism dif bruh /s

That's bad advice.

You gotta set a good example for others to follow. So don't do this.
