Odds on this meaning be gets a vacation day or just the opportunity to take an unpaid day off on a holiday?

Guaranteed it means he gets an unpaid day off for a day that he would've normally been scheduled.

Exactly this. I used to work at Walmart and we were expected to work pretty much every holiday

Please Quarteze, respectfully think about the shareholders and how much an unpaid day of work from you would mean for them. Not much, really, but they'd rather have you being miserable. Thanks Quarteze (you can run the 'work for free' wheel as many times as you want)

Probably something of a guarantee that he can take a paid vacation day on New Year's Eve. It's just that this whole thing feels wrong. Maybe it's my bias against American retailers speaking but making a certain guaranteed vacation day a prize for online reviews feels utterly dystopian to me. It would be less bad if it was an additional vacation day, but this is Walmart we're talking about.

I struggle putting my feeling into words one-by-one, but this is roughly my sentiment.

Looks like a bot posted the tweet, substituting into the quotes when neccessary.

Lucy is the loser of store, 205 online compliments from customers and got a chance to spin the "treadmill crane". The wheel stopped on "day 2" and she selected "to be put out of her misery". We'll miss you, Lucy!

That's the most coveted of all the prizes!

Management still will call him December 30th and ask him to work tomorrow because they are short

Those prizes suck. You could win a weekend off spending time with your friends and loved ones!! Or a cupcake.

The fact that there are even blackout zones on the wheel is fucking insulting. Imagine working in that hellscape for next to nothing, still doing well enough to get recognition, and then landing on "Better luck next time, wagie. Get your ass back on the floor."

The dark blue slices are also "holiday off". It's just bad text contrast, not blank.

I am not defending this practice at all, but I do think that they have sending written on them in black that the camera and compression have hidden. You don't want to give the plebs a black and white reason to revolt.

Edit: zoomed in on the hi res version, they are holiday off.
