If you have spare rooms, and your ac unit is struggling or your billz be wildin, close your vents and doors for rooms you don't use.

Also be sure to close blinds on rooms that are south facing

Isn't that common sense? The closing doors and windows part

Not closing windows, but blinds.

Closing doors only helps if you close the vents too.

And hey, there could be someone reading this thread who just moved into their first place, or moved to a hot climate for the first time.

Ah right, vents. I don't have any. I don't think anyone at where I live has vents in their houses ( actually, apartments)

And I just felt like it would be common sense to trap heat/cold.

Right but some folks might not think about how having open blinds can cause a lot of warming as sunlight pours through

Then this thread isn't for you because it doesn't get hot where you live.

No sane person would live in a home without a central HVAC in an area that gets real heat. Swamp coolers and those portable window A/Cs just can't keep up.

it doesn't get hot where you live.

23.5°N, subtropical, average summer air temperature 32°C

32°C is not hot, no matter the humidity.

Come talk to me when it's 45°+ with 35-45%RH for three months straight.

High humidity is worse, and it's for at least 6 months

Ok this is getting pointless. I'm just stating that I use air conditioner, and Hong Kong is so fking small the median apartment size is like 430 sqft. Most households don't need and can't afford a vent.

Also put foil-backed insulation over any single-paned windows you don't use. Or do what I did and cover only half the window if you still use the room occasionally.

And if you have an HOA that bans this, placing the insulation behind the blinds instead of directly on the window will do the trick and make it difficult to see what you did, especially if you keep the blinds closed or only open them partially and angled downward.

This is the third time my AC broke this year. Good thing I rent.

Sometimes they just get dirty, we learned that after our ac only spat out hot air, we rinsed it off and it was good as new ready to die for us again

Unfortunately mine is behind a locked door alongside my water heater.

Wow I would have murder on my mind if I couldn't adjust my water heater temperature. I set mine above 140°F/60°C so that the dishes in the dishwasher actually sanitize properly. Most water heaters hang out around 50°C out of the box, and I doubt the apartment community actually bothered to increase the temp.

Why do they do this? It's your power bill.

Yah, I don’t live in a big place, nor do we turn the house in to a refrigerator, but our power bill was 200+ $ last month when normally it is closer to 50 due to the heat wave.

It’s wild.

I'm looking forward to the day that I can afford a multi room split system and solar

Childhood obesity is so sad. I hope the boy is in good health.

AC makes it worse for everyone else. Don't use AC
