Who are the real lemmings? Us or the redditors that stuck around

Have other redditors left already?

I just got here yesterday. I have no intention of leaving. I was honestly quite bored with Reddit. Its culture went from one that is similar to how Lemmy is now, to one that is angry and depressed.

it's not just the politics; even just the casual threads went sour in the way people interacted. I already say enough mean things to myself in the mirror. I don't need some yutz on the internet adding in.

Ya I could never post on reddit without someone butting in to disagree

Well ACKSHULLY....

I think another thing was the pedantry. you'd say something, and one tiny detail would be not 100% accurate, and sure as shit, someone would jump all over you, and try and discredit the entirety of what you just wrote.

When the Ukraine war first broke out, I asked about a kind gesture I could do for my senior Ukranian neighbour. While most comments had positive suggestions, there were a few that said "can't believe people buy this karma farming shit" ... Like, is having a good relationship with your neighbour who happens to be Ukranian that much of an outlandish scenario!? No wonder they're miserable.

I’m sure your neighbor was grateful for whatever you decided to do for them. It’s kinda sad that social media is so full of garbage that people assume a post like yours is fake.

Unrelated to the original post, but my grandpa had new Ukranian neighbors when the war first broke out and they had a newborn baby and no furniture. He gave them his favorite rocking chair so they could rock their baby. It was the nicest thing he’d ever done lol.

Every uplifting news comment section are people saying why it's actually a bad thing. Or if you haven't seen something before and everyone are complaining about it being repost... They like to dunk on Twitter's toxicity (while a lot of Reddit posts are twitter screenshots) but it's really pot calling the kettle black.

True.

I mean, Lemmy will ultimately have some of this, if it doesn't exist already. Gaywallet on @Beehaw has a really great post on the finer points of internet discussion.

I don't expect this place to be all sunshine, rainbows, and frolicking kittens; but I would really like to be able to just TALK to someone without them calling me a moron.

lemmings are good creatures tho so i assume us

Just don't take them to the mountains, or near cliff-faces.

I figure you're just joking and are well aware that this was a myth invented for a Disney nature "documentary", but I feel a duty to defend the noble lemmings against this scurrilous stereotype. They're not suicidal or mindless followers. They do, however, smell terrible.

If "lemmings" becomes the preferred term I fear we will be explaining this forever.

I like to think we refugees are the lemmings that jumped through Reddit's cliff.

Honestly, I don't think Lemmy with thrive if it's an "us vs them" mentality IMO the "real lemmings" will be anyone participating or contributing to conversations here
