Are there any affordable sweat pants that don't pill up?

SnausagesinaBlanket@lemmy.world to Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world – 49 points –

Some with pockets that would almost pass as pants.

I have tried brands up to $45 a pair and they all do it.

I am male and in the big and tall size range and wear 13EEEEEE shoes.

(There are no active clothing communities that I could find in lemmy.world so I am hoping I didn't break any rules asking in this community instead.)

I don’t have an answer on the sweat pants, but just in case you’ve not seen them, these bad boys are a thing. My family has had one in some form for more than 30 years, they are great.

"Joggers" might be a different material, because they dont so that.

They're just hipster sweatpants with pockets and no elastic at the bottom.

Seconding joggers. They're basically just sweatpants with good marketing. I've got two pairs that haven't pilled up on me yet.

I'm not sure if/where else they sell them, but every once in a while Costco has some Puma sweatpants that are ~$20 and a nice thickness/durability.

I love the Costco puma sweatpants, they’re made so well they last for years!

32degrees cotton terry joggers stand up really well, and are super comfy and affordable. I’ve been wearing them for years and they still look new. Don’t get the fleece or tech stretch joggers though, those are shitty quality for some reason and pill up immediately.

Per my post these fit people that are 6' 6" and 250 pounds in the big and tall range? My usual size is 3XL-4XL

Hmm maybe not, my bad. Their site says XXL (their biggest) would fit waist size 44-46in, so that might not work for you.

For reference, I’m 5’ 10” around 170 and their medium is perfect for me.

Alternatively, you could buy a fabric shaver (yes, that's a real thing), which you can use to remove any pilling from your current sweatpants.

Those things put holes in my clothing once. Never again.

There's this brand I found at Costco Canada called Karbon.

They are everything that you want. They are sweats, they have a drawstring and a high quality waistband, they hang (no bunching) and look more like pants than sweats. Vanishing side pockets and a rear pocket as well.

And the material is such good quality that the first pair I bought five years ago looks almost as new as the day I bought it. And these are my "daily wear" for either relaxing at home after work, or just going shopping.

I got some Champion branded sweatpants from Costco within the past couple months that are fantastic. I’m not sure what “pill” means in relation to sweatpants, but these are probably the most comfortable I’ve ever worn. They wouldn’t pass as regular pants anywhere, but they do have pockets. They might be sold as joggers; I can’t remember. I’m 6’1” and 265 lbs. if that helps; not quite big and tall range but close.

I’ve been wearing a pair of “PROGO USA” sweatpants from AMZ for nearly six years. Not sure I know what you mean by pill up but these have lasted without complaint.

Pilling is when the fabric forms little balls on it like this: horrors

Ah! I haven't experienced this. Thanks.

Not sure if you are in Canada, but MPG pants have worked out well for me. They are hella expensive if you don't get them on sale, but wait for sales and sign up for their email to get 10-15% off the sale price too. I've gotten a few pairs for less than $40 and they seem like good quality. No significant pilling yet on 3 different styles.
