Why does the Reddit community on Lemmy get that big pink banner (which I've redacted) advertising the Barbie movie?

Doug Holland@lemmy.world to Reddit@lemmy.world – 60 points –

It's the first advertising I've seen on Lemmy, and for my eyeballs it's not a welcome intrusion.

Jeez, I hope Lemmy and the fediverse will be powered by enthusiasm and donations, not by advertising.

I just hope it's the same banner in 5 years. The longer it stays the funnier it is.

Thanks for 'splaining it. I shall toss no more rocks at Lemmy's windows.

This link doesn't seem to be working for me :/

Screenshot of Lemmy post asking for banner image submissions for the Reddit community on Lemmy. Top comment apparently by a moderator contains the following text followed by an image of a poster for the Barbie movie

"In addition, we have received this image submission earlier today from an anonymous member of our community, who also offered the c/reddit moderation team, and I quote, "one Barbie-llion dollars", to set it as the community banner. We’re not sure what to make of this"

Probably because of @margotrobbie@lemmy.world

It wasn't me, you can't prove it was me, because I was out promoting "Barbie"... Somewhere else.

I should probably be excited about talking to "Margot Robbie", but I'm just happy I managed to tag someone correctly on the first try!

I was scrolling only to see if someone would Beetlejuice the account!

:)

I think the logo and the banner is funny, it really represents what reddit has become very well.

Well, everyone is leaving Reddit because Reddit is making a bunch of changes for advertisers. Sooooo….
