Why Donald Trump ‘hates Ukraine’: The once and possibly future U.S. president blames the country for his political woes
politico.eu
Donald Trump doesn’t easily forgive or forget.
As Trump’s Republican allies in the United States Congress block military aid that Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy says Kyiv desperately needs to avoid defeat in its war with invading Russian forces, it’s clear the former U.S. president’s ill will toward Ukraine has deep roots.
It was, after all, a phone call with Zelenskyy that led to Trump’s first impeachment in December 2019, after he was accused of seeking to influence the 2020 election by leaning on the Ukrainian leader to investigate current President Joe Biden and his son Hunter.
Whatever. He's been a Russian asset since the mid 80's.
Tried to win the Presidency as a Democrat & when Putin finally realized the GOP was the US party that was actually for sale, switched to the GOP.
He works for Putin, not us.
He hates Ukraine because his boss manipulated him into hating Ukraine. That’s what happens when you put egomaniacal, mentally defective degenerates - i.e., 99.99999% of the republican party - in charge of anything. They’re fucking tools.
I think he hates Ukraine because they had the balls to stand up to russia and trump is too much of a pussy, so he's jealous.
It can be two things
Absolutely, I wasn't saying the top poster was wrong, but just giving my two cents.
Unfortunately, this knuckle-dragger is not capable of admitting, perhaps even understanding, that he brought all of this on himself. Everything bad that happens to him is someone else's fault. Everything good that happens was his idea.
Yes, these are the textbook symptoms of a textbook narcissist. Incapable of empathy. Basically an unfillable hole that will pull in and destroy anyone around them.
Actually from the dsm (the book) he is not a narcissist.
https://www.statnews.com/2017/09/06/donald-trump-mental-illness-diagnosis/
Here is an article from the man who wrote this diagnostic criteria for narcissism and why we should not use mental illness as an insult
I don’t know how you concluded that I was using “narcissist” as an insult, because I wasn’t.
From the linked article, written 7 years ago, only a handful of months into his presidency when there was still a swell of mental health professionals maintaining that they should remain impartial:
In the 7 years since this article was written we’ve had plenty of people testify under oath about his severe distress and impairment, if that’s the criteria that was unmet at that point in time.
Using mental illness as a weapon as you did, is using it as a slur. You said it met the text book definition and it doesn’t. As a psychiatrist, people with mental illness suffer enough stigma that people don’t need to spread misinformation on the topic. And there you go trying to diagnose people without any training again even though people with training are not allowed to do that as it’s an ethical violation. Just say he’s a narcissist in laymen’s terms. Stop trying to diagnose people were you are not qualified or weaponize mental illness.
It’s interesting that you keep putting words in my mouth and moving the goalpost back to where it actually started in this thread. I did not say “According to the DSM”, nor did I say anything about NPD or “cluster B”. I said he’s a textbook narcissist, which is true in layman’s terms.
You’re characterizing things as “slurs” and “weaponizing”, which is a textbook disinformation and confusion tactic, so good day to you doctor.
The funny thing is you didn't even say THAT. You said these are "textbook symptoms of a textbook narcissist." You didn't even say he was one, just that he displays symptoms of one.
Thanks for pointing that out, it was a very clever piece of manipulation.
Then what text book are you talking about? Did you mean the dictionary? Yes, dictionary wise he’s a narcissist.
Text book no.
Can't blame him for thinking there's no consequences for doing crimes because he's been getting away with that for 70 years with very little consequence. It's really an indictment of the justice system that he (and thousands of guys like him) have been getting away with shit for so long.
He is Eric Cartman, but like one that is on uppers AND downers
To be fair to Cartman, he's been shown to have the capacity to grow into a decent person under the right circumstances. Trump on the other hand will almost certainly always be Trump no matter the timeline
Such as? The only times I can think of was when Cesar Milan "trained" him and he was ultimately only behaving to continue to manipulate his mum in future, and when they convinced him he was dead, where it was like 90% him responding to the lack of attention.
The covid one when they're adults maybe? Can't remember if he was lying/had an ulterior motive by the end of the episode
Rabbi Cartman is the biggest example yeah. He does revert to his old ways somewhat, but only when he finds out the other guys are planning to essentially murder his family and everyone else in their timeline. Granted they plan to do that so their alternate universe clones can live in a world less devastated by the pandemic, and he does eventually agree to sacrifice them for a small chance of gaining them again but a large chance of a better world (possibly for his clone to be tormented by echoes of memories, the alternate Stan seems to subconsciously remember that Shelly died in the original timeline).
We didn't see much of him but the Cartman who ran an actual time travel company in the episode about the fake one seemed a decent dude, but made the mistake of talking to his younger self who hadn't had the growth yet so he decides to spite himself to make sure he never comes to be
That's just garden-variety narcissism, and Trump is definitely a narcissist.
It always comes back to his own bullshit ego
More specifically: he is furious with Zelensky and Ukraine for not letting him use them as a bargaining chip. Trump cannot fucking fathom how someone he sees as less powerful than himself can defy him on anything.
Kompromat, that's all there is to it.
That's a very long-winded way of saying Trump is in Russia's pocket and didn't like Biden's interference in Russian-driven corruption in Ukraine ahead of their invasion.
Bc he is a dumb and petty baby.
He hates ukraine because zelensky was always interupting when he was enjoying sucking putins cock.
This is the best summary I could come up with:
It was, after all, a phone call with Zelenskyy that led to Trump’s first impeachment in December 2019, after he was accused of seeking to influence the 2020 election by leaning on the Ukrainian leader to investigate current President Joe Biden and his son Hunter.
“It was impossible to prove the authenticity of the signature next to Manafort’s name in the ledger,” said Yuriy Lutsenko, a former prosecutor general who for a time supported Trump’s efforts to open a corruption investigation into Hunter Biden.
Trump’s July 2019 phone call with Zelenskyy would play a central role in one of the most embarrassing episodes in his political career: his first impeachment, which stemmed from his effort to pressure Ukraine’s president to open an investigation into Biden.
The catalyst was a video in which then-Vice President Joe Biden described how in 2016 he had threatened to withhold funds from Ukraine’s then-President Petro Poroshenko if Kyiv didn’t fire a prosecutor.
While Biden did seek Shokin’s removal, it was as part of a coordinated effort with the U.S. State Department and the European Union over concerns the prosecutor was blocking corruption investigations in the country.
“I don’t believe anybody who represents the party of Ronald Reagan will abandon Ukraine,” Andriy Yermak, the head of Zelenskyy’s office, told POLITICO earlier this month.
The original article contains 1,731 words, the summary contains 217 words. Saved 87%. I'm a bot and I'm open source!
Trump, man up to your own shortfalls.
If that was ever even close to working we wouldn't be here at all
So, saying he will end a war in Ukraine means he hates it?
For millions of Ukrainians including my family and friends who failed to escape Ukraine, this is the only chance to remain alive.
Only in the same way that saying he will end a hostage negotiation means he hates hostages. The context of how he will do it matters. Shooting the hostage does technically end the negotiation, and that's the equivalent to what he is suggesting. He would just have Ukraine surrender or at least cede territory which would only appease Russia for so long. We know this from history. Without due consequence, this is just rewarding Russia for their bad behavior. But trump is incapable of understanding behavioral consequences because he's never not been rewarded for being a selfish asshole.
The only hostage in this situation is Ukrainian population, that is slowly getting butchered. So in your analogy, he is the only one negotiating the release of hostages, while everybody else is busy killing them.
Lots if not most of people would prefer to be alive on ceded territory than dead on whatever territory. You are suggesting to kill millions of innocent people without giving them a meaningful choice.
Do you think millions of people who will get to live due to his actions are going to call him selfish? I wouldn't. If what you mean instead is that his actions wouldn't benefit USA in its geopolitical game with Russia by the cost of lives of other people - you can just say that.
There was a highly upvoted post here on lemmy with "saving lives is hot" as the title, what happened to that? Or does it work only when it is about Americans, and Ukrainians can be massacred?
Ukraine wants to fight for their nation. You think that if they wanted to surrender, they wouldn't have done so by now? Stop pretending that trump is giving them a choice rather than taking away their choice to defend their nation. Yes, the US and Europe can benefit from helping this proxy conflict, but if a fire were burning up your next door neighbor's house, would you deny that helping them to put out that fire helps keep your house safe too? Withholding aid is what is getting Ukrainians killed, and trump should know all about that since it's what got him impeached. The first time, specifically. And now he's a salty, petulant child who wants Ukraine wiped off the map because of that, plus he will do anything to please Putin, and Putin wants to steal that land back to force a strongman legacy.
Don't be obtuse. This isn't complicated. The former president has the temperament of a 6 year old by his own admission. He wants to sucker punch Volodymyr after the 3:30 bell because trump got caught copying off his worksheet. It's like connect the dots but you only need to draw two very obvious lines.
People want to live. Politicians want to play geopolitcs.
Who are they? Nobody gives a choice to Ukrainians, and those who dare to say something against the government are sent to die.
Whose choice to defend their nation? The politicians? People are being kidnapped from the streets, and against their will sent to the army. Do you call this a choice?
Exactly, I would be helping them to put out the fire (end the conflict), instead of pouring gasoline on it (supporting the government that refuses to negotiate, and murders hundreds of thousands of people).
No, supporting and encouraging a government which refuses to negotiate and sends people to their deaths is what getting them killed.
