As we witness the recent mass exodus from Reddit to Lemmy - Whoever named this Platform after Lemmings, must have had a freaking good foresight.

Huh? Why, what is so special about Lemmings that---

Wikipedia: In popular culture, a longstanding myth holds that they exhibit herd mentality and jump off cliffs, committing mass suicide.

Huh.

Disney killed a bunch of them to help perpetuate the myth.

and further that the same small group of lemmings was transported to the location, jostled on turntables, and repeatedly shoved off a cliff to imply mass suicide.

So its about big corpos spreading misinformation and trying to kill something small to earn more money. Lemmy (and the fediverse) wouldn't know anything about that, right?

I thought it was because Reddit is like “read it” and Lemmy is like “Lemmy show you this”. Lemmings is a great name though.

I didn't really think much of it myself, but when I joined, for like two weeks, joining instances was a bit harder due to some being closed and others having sporadic downtime. So one very common joke was people saying "Lemmy In! LEMMY IN!"

Makes me think of the mass migration from Digg to Reddit, same for 9gag. I have a lot of hope for the Fediverse though.
