"They censor us, but it doesn't change the truth," he said before telling a whopper of a lie about his mama in a new ad. "Joe Biden's open border is killing Ohioans, with more illegal drugs and more Democrat voters pouring into this country.

"This issue is personal," he added. "I nearly lost my mother to the poison coming across our border. No child should grow up an orphan. I'm J.D. Vance, and I approve this message because whatever they call us, we will put America first."

The only problem here is that he lied. As a nurse, JD Vance's mother stole prescribed medications from her patients, and that was not because of undocumented immigrants. Vance got the community note routine on Xitter.

"I nearly lost my mother to the poison coming across our border“ sure sounds like lying to me. There’s clear omission of key facts leading people to the wrong conclusion.

It would have been clearer to say "I nearly lost my mother to the sort of poison that is now coming across our border," but he's recording an ad and he needs to be concise. I would agree that he was being misleading if he was trying to use his mother's addition as evidence that opiates are being smuggled from Mexico, but he isn't. (It is a widely acknowledged fact that a lot of opiates are smuggled in from Mexico.) Therefore even if some listeners do assume that his mother was addicted specifically to Mexican opiates, that doesn't substantially affect their understanding of what he's saying.

Yes it would’ve been clearer but that’s not what he said, he almost lost her to the poison that IS coming over the border (emphasis is mine). That is a lie.

This is Biden's DEA and if you check the pdf, you'll see that they're talking specifically about fentanyl.

Its not widely accepted..back when his mother was addicted to opiates it was likely "China white" in that area of the country; likely imported from the middle east / asia. Heroin coming from mexico has historically been the "black tar" variety.

Thats if she was taking heroin. If it was Rx opiates she didn't need to go further than her pain doctor back then. The rules have changed a lot over the years but 10 years ago she would have been able to get those filled by her provider.

It was Rx opiates, ones she was stealing from her patients.

Thanks for context, I could not be bothered to research anything about this guy. Glad his mom found recovery but the specifics here make it even more ridiculous how he is tying his moms substance use issues to the proverbial boogeymen south of the border.

I'm not losing my humanity, it's an integral part of shitting on fascists. This fuck head's solution to the fentanyl crisis is to kick out and lock out immigrants. The vast majority of people caught smuggling fentanyl are US citizens. Explain how stirring racist tensions is gonna fix that.

That solution is both useless and insane. Also horrendous. Not gonna defend that.
