I too have suspended my campaign for President.

Crap. I was going to announce MY suspended campaign today, but why bother if everyone is doing it.

It's a shame you have because I love the tropical flavors

How big is Miami? I thought I read somewhere there were no republican mayors of large cities.

Not sure if you're trolling or not American. Miami has a sizable Cuban expat population who will forever vote republican after the fuckery that was the Bay of Pigs. It's unique in that regard

The Bay of Pigs is such an odd thing to blame it on. I guess you're saying they're mad it failed and they and the rest of their right-wing monarchists didn't get put back in power?

The Cuban population has been a dependable GOP voting box for decades. Cubans trend republican regardless of actual issues or stances because Kennedy (ie, the guy who authorized and ultimately botched the Bay of Pigs and was the reason a lot of them became expats in the first place) was a Democrat.

Dude. This is American history 101 and happened in a lot of our parent's lifetimes. Travel outside your bubble sometime

This is the best summary I could come up with:

After failing to gain national traction, Miami Mayor Francis Suarez announced in a statement that he is suspending his campaign to run for the GOP nomination for president.

This comes after Suarez did not meet the criteria to appear on stage at the first Republican debate in Milwaukee.

"It was a privilege to come so close to appearing on stage with the other candidates at last week's first debate," Suarez said in the statement.

"I had looked forward to sharing the story of Miami, America's most successful city, especially at a time when so many cities are plagued with poverty, unemployment, high taxes, violent crime, and homelessness."

Suarez ended by committing to work with the party: "I look forward to keeping in touch with the other Republican presidential candidates and doing what I can to make sure our party puts forward a strong nominee who can inspire and unify the country, renew Americans' trust in our institutions and in each other, and win."

He has famously sparred with the frontrunner in the 2024 race, former President Donald Trump, in the past.
