The National Park Service is warning that it will close most US national parks if Congress fails to come to an agreement to avoid a government shutdown this weekend, and a popular social media campaign celebrating fat bears will be canceled.
The parks will close as the agency applies lessons learned from previous shutdowns to its closure plans.
“In the event of a lapse in the annual government appropriations, National Park Service sites will be closed. The parks depend on Congress and appropriations to pay staff salaries and keep the parks running. This means that the majority of national parks will be closed completely to public access,” a senior administration official said.
So my ability to visit Yellowstone National Park is at the whim of the fucking Republicans.

Yes, land should be owned by private people to do with as they please. If I want to pave over Yellowstone and put up a strip mall by god that's my right as an American, provided I've got enough money.
Founding Father Thomas Jefferson literally bought the land Yellowstone sits on.
(Well, most of it, anyway -- it looks like part of the park straddles the boundary between the Louisiana Purchase and the Oregon Territory?)

The bears in Alaska bulk up for hibernation. They come into the park really, really skinny and then everyone makes bets on who will put on the most weight. It's a lot of fun.

How can a national park be 'closed'? Do they build a giant wall around them in the great 'merica to isolate the nature inside? Do they make you pay for a ticket like in an amusement park?
The rangers go home. If there are gates, they close them.
And trash stops getting picked up and the bathrooms are locked, so you can imagine what happens when people go in anyway.
