Is it okay for a community like c/fauxbait to exist on this platform?

This probably isn't the best place for this but something I want to have been mentioned.

Obviously porn in general is fine, even the more risqué or honestly even unsanitary isn't really a problem to me. And yes I understand all the women are of legal and there's verification. But isn't this still problematic? They're being sexualized for the reason of looking like they are too young to be sexualized. That seems like a great way to encourage pedophilia. It's a gross concept, especially given the median age on this platform.

And yes, I've blocked it for myself because I'm too old to want to see that when I'm scrolling /all. But I still think it's a bad message to leave out there.

Is it problematic that older people get off on people that look like kids? Sure, that’s kinda weird. I see kids in college and it amazes me that other people my age are attracted to them. They look like kids to me and I’m not even 10 years out from undergrad.

Is it wrong that the community exists on Lemmy? I don’t think so. It’s legal and you’re not going to eliminate the behavior by getting rid of the community.

Be prepared for a shock if you travel to some asian countries then. I’ve found myself uncomfortable that someone who seemed underage was trying to have a conversation with me, worried what bystanders might be thinking, only to be absolutely floored when it turned out she was my senior by a decade or more, with kids half my age. It took a while to adjust to that.

I think this is just a common thing with other races. People are bad at guessing ages and bad at facial recognition too

Ummmmm… to a degree yes but also no. There's a subtle difference between just not being able to tell how young people of a population are, versus someone who is much older than you seeming so young that you're actually concerned about being thrown in jail.

My wife is Asian. She is slightly older than I am. But I'm a weird, bald dude, and she looks like a young teenager. When I think about it too much, it makes me feel self conscious while we are out.

I just think it’s funny now when people get mad at the expression “age is just a number” because they assume you’re trying to justify being with someone under and outside your “acceptable” age range, when it can be the opposite. I remember a lady commenting on me being out to dinner with someone and said something to the effect of me robbing the cradle in an accusatory way, and my date told her that actually it was the other way around LOL

Legal =/= good

Legal =/= not bad

And no not eliminate, but it would discourage the behavior.

Right, we agree about legality and morality not necessarily being the same. I disagree that it would really discourage it though.

Well, being real, the problem with that is overblown.

Yeah, it's creepy, and you run into hebephiles using it as sexual material. There's also enough people that can be a sexual focus for actual pedophiles in the kind of pictures typical on the old r/fauxbait and similar forums (I have no clue if any exist in the fediverse or not).

But people are bugging out of their fucking minds about the shit. It really isn't some kind of pervasive problem.

And, if you start blaming the women in the images for their body, you cross into asshole territory. There's a reason age verification laws exist for sexualized imagery. You really can't always tell age by looks, and you shouldn't be interfering in the acts of other consenting adults.

It ain't my thing, but I'm sure as hell not going to claim some kind of moral authority to deny some woman the freedom of her body just because it icks me out that she's small and young looking. And that's where it ends up. It's one of those things where you can't prevent the hebe and pedo philes from enjoying the material without interfering with the rights of the models.

And, on a real level, they're adults. They're age verified. Anyone viewing such things knows that. So even the hebe-pedo viewers aren't actually doing anything wrong. They're using adult sexual material. There is a moral difference there that does matter.

Does it turn my stomach? Yeah. But that's simply not a good enough reason to go on the warpath.

Also, quite frankly, if pedos are looking at adults to fulfill their sexual needs...... good.

So many people are so obsessed with villianizing these people that they want to obliterate any safe alternative. They act like EVERYBODY is just one image away from forsaking their desire for adults for good (says more about them than anything IMO, but I digress.)

Actual pedos just get aroused for what they get aroused for, just like everyone else. I get hard for women, gay guys don't. Vice versa. We don't talk about normal people waking up and choosing to be straight. 🤷 Alot of them are just as bothered by it as normal people are. Let them have their safe, victimless outlets.

I want to be clear, the way the community is named is not, "look at this sexy young woman" it is, "look at this nude of what looks like a high school girl, isn't that hot?"

Also, this is more of cultural problem that needs some societal retraining to fix for real.

I fully agree with your last statement. It's not just women either -- I'm gay, and I see it as a problem in my demographic as well. For some reason, a shocking number of people really, really want to sexualize extremely young looking people. Even outside of communities dedicated to things like this, it's extremely prevalent in things like porn. I've got no problem with porn in theory, but so much of it seems centered around fantasies involving massive power imbalances / predatory behavior.

I don’t exactly expect that a smallish internet fourm can fix the fetishization of high school children across the english speaking world, but we absolutely can effect this preticular lemmy community.

While I also have it blocked, it is really hard to say recommend lemmy to friends when even from beehaw you have “i can’t believe it’s not child porn” making up a bunch of /all.

** That seems like a great way to encourage pedophilia.**

100% disagree.

Pedos aren't into young looking people, they are into young people. The whole point is that they aren't an adult, aren't mature in the head, etc. I have no proof but I doubt that many pedos frequent that sub.

The thought of a like, actually young is a massive turn off for me. Young looking is fine, but an actual child is 🤮. Like, if I saw some hot chick who looked 25 but was actually 16 I would have the same reaction. I would like to think that reaction is pretty normal.

Isn't this in the same vein as like, mature/milf/gilf/etc just the other end of the spectrum?

Pedos aren’t into young looking people, they are into young people. The whole point is that they aren’t an adult, aren’t mature in the head, etc.

Not really. Different pedos are attracted to different aspects of prepubescence, but a common part of it is attraction to the physical features. The age isn't really relevant to that. There's some who dislike children and want nothing to do with them; they just happen to have an attraction to those physical features typical of prepubscent children. OTOH, there's some people who considered themselves pedophiles and also asexual.

Like, if I saw some hot chick who looked 25 but was actually 16 I would have the same reaction

If you just saw someone standing on the street, you would not know what age they really were.

You're not attracted to age, you're attracted to the age the person looks like, which in this case is not an adult.

The most important difference with milf/gilf/etc is that those aren't children.

No, also which instance is that hosted on? .ml?

I think there's a porn instance called lemmy.nsfw or something

My opinion has always been that NSFW instances should be quarantined entirely to their own "porniverse" or whatever.

And yeah this type of content (underage or pseudo-underage) should be banned entirely in all cases imo.

I would say that, for people that might be struggling with being attracted to kids, and are trying to stop or change that habbit this type of community would be a good start for them because atleast they are trying to an extent to be legal. As long that the people involved are of legal age, then it shouldn't be problematic. That's like if I were to ask this question;

There are some kids at highschool at age 15 that look older, is that problematic? If there were actual minors on the communitiy however, that would actually be a legal concern. But it would have to be knowingly if i'm not mistaken that they are actually underage. If whether you know or not their a minor, even if they lie about their age is a legal concern correct in replies. But then in that case any relationship could be at legal risk if the other person lies to you and is under age.
