I once again highly recommend people read this article about Netanyahu's former best friend who says he's using this war as a pretext to be a dictator.

https://www.jpost.com/israel-news/article-798324

This shouldn't surprise anyone, sadly. In a way there are many parallels with Bibi, and Trump & Putin for different reasons.

For Trump's case, Bibi has been facing corruption trials and his freedom is at least partially contingent on remaining prime minister and possibly revamping the entire justice system so as to avoid conviction.

For Putin, we're looking at similarities in terms of exploiting crises for power consolidation (see the apartment bombings), and just the sheer amount of time a person has clung to power, both over 2 decades, surving several American presidents. All exploit right-wing nationalism.

Let's not Netanyahu's stochastic remarks essentially led to the previous Israeli prime minister's assassination (because he was pursuing a 2 state solution in earnest).

I don't think there's a single person on the planet who doesn't want Netanyahu gone from the Israeli government.

He failed guarding Israeli lives

He failed guarding Palestinian lives (didn't really try tho)

He failed disabling Hamas

He failed bringing the hostages back

He caused Israel to be the most divided it has ever been, hence the most right wing government is right now in office

And all just to not be in jail. Fuck Netanyahu.

I have to say I think he really succeeded in one area: growing the next generation of Hamas.

The normalization of relations with the other Muslim states is an affront to the totalitarian aims of Netanyahu.

They need a great satan, and are happy that it is Hamas, and not direct confrontation with Iran.

I bet some of the leaders of Hamas are big fans of Bibi's reign.

I'm naive and so I'm hoping that no war cabinet means no more war 🥺

Nah.

The article sounds like Netenyahu is consolidating power because he's getting increased calls to actually hold an election...

I appreciate your optimism, but it doesn't look good.

“The security cabinet will continue to decide on matters regarding the war,” the official said, claiming Netanyahu “will hold smaller forums on sensitive matters.” It was unclear who specifically Netanyahu would be consulting with for matters regarding the war in Gaza.

Announcing his “complex and painful decision” to leave the war cabinet on June 9, Gantz said, “Netanyahu prevents us from moving forward to a real victory [in Gaza]

Sounds like what a dictator taking over, would do

It's costing him more than it's saving him. Now his coalition partners are threatening him because they think he's bowing to US pressure to slow down murdering people. If Biden actually decides to use that lever, he can make Bibi's coalition fall.

Edit:

“The person who decided on a ‘tactical pause’ … while the best of our soldiers are being killed in battle is a fool and an imbecile who must not remain in office,” said Internal Security Minister Itamar Ben-Gvir. Finance Minister Bezalel Smotrich claimed the pause risked putting “the achievements of the war down the drain.” Both ministers previously threatened to bring down Bibi’s coalition government if he ended the war, and had lobbied to replace Gantz on the war cabinet.

Ben-Gvir is a true blue genocidal monster. And he's in charge of the police. His party platform is explicit genocide.

I really hope this is the beginning of the end for him.
