Earlier in the year they removed the trial offer. Now it's returned, but worse than before.

As they continue to spend billions buying publishers and developers to shore up their Game Pass offerings, expect prices to go up and the deals to get worse.

The price of Game Pass is still four months for the price of one full priced new release game, like it was before. But now new games cost $70 instead of $60.

Game Pass is still $9.99 a month for PC, unless they upped the priced literally today. So $40 for 4 months, which includes new released games that are otherwise still sold full price, and narrative indie titles that most would only play through once anyways.

That's how sub services always work. They get a user base via great introduction offers then slowly raise prices up to where they should be and hope enough people are brought into the ecosystem to not leave.

I've avoided the game pass, even though it's only a dollar a month. I knew it was just an enticement to get their world garden to be great and then they would turn into Microsoft and be sucky.

I'd rather stay with steam who's never treated me poorly.

I had no problem using it, but now that they're cutting the value before they even acquire Call of Duty and put it on the service, I cancelled and switched to PS+ Premium. If there's ever a game I really want to play, I've found that I can set up the auto-renew Microsoft Rewards claim for PC Gamepass and it's very easily sustainable. If I do nothing but the daily Edge/Bing searches, I reach the required point value for one month in something like 25 days. Fuck paying for Gamepass, the enshittification has started.

I mean, surely steam games are more of a walled garden, since you can only play them on a machine that can run steam. Gamepass games can literally be streamed on your phone if you want as well as Xbox and PC support.

Steam never forces exclusives. Steam you have the game forever. Microsoft has a extensive track record of embrace extend extinguish

I think once my current gamepass offer is up in a year and a half I'll be using the service similar to blockbuster. Only grabbing a month when there's a couple things I'm interested in trying.

So essentially it's a 100% price increase.

For the trial, the actual service is going up a couple of quid a month.

Me who has never and will never pay for Game Pass: "That's nice dear"

I swapped from Xbox series x to ps5 recently and selling my x.

The fact I couldn't use my Xbox in Windows (I get a black screen and lots of people having that issue), and there was nobody seemingly to talk to about it, I decided to just dump it

Honestly, Game Pass is a pretty good deal if you are okay with Windows. It's entirely how they are locking in the next generation of players but honestly, if it's a good deal and you are using Windows anyways (because at this point is far better than Linux, sorry but it's true.) then there really isn't an issue. The monthly trial isn't the reason most people started with game pass. Especially with Starfield going on game pass day one people will be flocking to game pass just to try it.
