I recommend Vampire Survivors. It's kind of like a rougelite meets bullet hell.

This game cost me almost as much time as reddit. Now that I have more time in my life maybe it's time for a few more runs... I can't recommend it enough. It does start out slow though.

Can't believe you're the only vamp survivors recommendation so far.

Vampire Survivors is digital crack hahaha. I watched a friend play it and thought "That looks so stupid." Then I tried it, and wound up sharing it with like five other friends who said the same thing I did, and then also got addicted.

Seriously, it looks like it'll be boring but sinks it's teeth into you, (pun intended) then all of a sudden you've been sitting on the toilet for 40 minutes.

Oh man, I remember seeing that a while ago and meaning to take note of it, and I apparently forgot. I need to try that out

Shattered Pixel Dungeon is fun

Holy shit I haven't played pixel dungeon in so fucking long. Did they ever add more plot or is it still hack and slash madness? I'm down af either way

5x different heros, i havent been able to get past the 11th floor though. its tricky

I'm a big fan of FarmRPG. Semi-idle "numbers go up", mostly text + static images game with a lovely community. It has zero ads and, even though it has a paid currency and some very unoptimized ways to spend it, the game is very generous with it (to the point where I've earned the vast majority of my currency by trading resources). It's a bit janky, but fun.

Shattered Pixel Dungeon is free and great fun. It's a roguelike dungeon exploration game, there are many forks of the original Pixel Dungeon but this is my favorite one. Similar to this is Hoplite, a very short (in the free version) turn-based, almost puzzle-like game where you have to get through monster-filled rooms to proceed. Lots of mechanics that you have to learn to use in order to survive.

For more strategy, seconding Polytopia, as well as Unciv (it even has mods!), which is a Civilization-like game.

For a simple but fun gameplay loop, Alto's Adventure and Alto's Odyssey, where you slide your way down various landscapes. The latter especially adds a lot of fun little tweaks onto the original's formula.

I Love Hue and especially I Love Hue 2 are great "arrange the colors properly" games. Hundreds of levels, no nonsense, solid fun.

Go download Fdroid and go to town, its a great repository of FOSS android apps

Mindustry has a bit of a slow start, but i was hooked for weeks when i first downloaded.

If you want to have a time killer and invest into a game with no benefits. Marvel Strike Force is a good time killer. Been playing it on and off for 3-4 years now.

I highly recommend kingdom rush. Imo one of the best tower defense games.

@QuietStorm not sure if you're into FPS games, but I've sunken obscene amounts of time into Call of Duty Mobile and haven't paid a dime. It's free to play, but they advertise micro transactions to you, which are easily ignored. And I've played it no problem on a $50 Moto e6.

I couldn't agree with this comment more! cod:m is a blast and runs on a lot of devices, even google-free ones.

Minesweeper or sudoku are great if your internet connection/phone isn't great and you want to kill some time.

are there any more you know of because i tend to game hop becasue i get bored easily for some reason.

Wordle and 2048 are also games I've enjoyed

If you're still bored, maybe an ebook reader like Libby or librera reader

Or a podcast app - I use antennapod

Marvel Snap is super fun, it's a really good way to kill a few minutes

I like minesweeper and sudoku. I heard good things about 20 minutes till dawn (like vampire survivors).
Like 10 years ago I used to play questlord (dungeon crawler) and pocket god (god game), those games ought to run on your phone. Also that was back before 99% of mobile games were made as games first and foremost.

Farm RPG and Zen Koi are chill casual games

Vector, Hill Climb Racing and Asphalt Nitro are some the classics.

There was a really solid tower defense game on fdroid that I played a ton when I had an android

Polytopia is pretty fun, especially with friends

Seconded! I don't game much on my phone, but Polytopia is easy to pick up, fun, and has tons of replay-ability

Pinball Deluxe Reloaded for action
Patience Revisited for solitaire

And that's about it.

I really love unciv, it's a clone of civ 5, same mechanics but with pixelart graphics

I found an ad free free version of solitaire on the store and that's pretty nice when I need to pass the time.

Retro Bowl is fucking amazing. Really the only mobile game I've played a lot of

I like osmand. I usually have my state and surrounding states downloaded just in case. It also can show more information than Google maps, especially for hiking and mountain biking, you can also customize the map display as well. The navigation is obviously not as good as maps but it's reliable af.

I've spent way too long playing Nonograms Katana to kill time during physical pentests or while waiting for scans.

i play brawl stars a lot, would recommend it

this isn't a game but I used to be the same and never got any games that cost money.

Until I found the google surveys app, it gives you money for filling out surveys for Google (questions like "is this interesting?" and showing a pic of an ad. takes a couple seconds and you get $0.1-$1 from it)

now I have Stardew valley, Minecraft and about ~$30 just hanging around that I can use on the play store for movies or whatever. worth looking into if you didn't know about it

It's not free, but Slice & Dice is the best mobile game I've ever played. It has a pretty large and good demo that's worth playing by itself.

Nonograms Katana. Infinite puzzles from user submissions.
