I'm convinced that the sudden popularity of conspiracy theories are actually people who badly need there to be something in control of it all, even if it's malevolent. That's somehow more comforting than actually staring down the void.

I don't like using reddit out of principle, but I know a lot of their stuff gets circulated elsewhere, and I have taken from some "best of" reddit content when trying to help jump-start some small niche communities here.
