Is there a way to get a single notification for a conversation, be it WhatsApp, text or whatever, then silence notifications until the window-licking shitbag stops pressing [Send]? 😅

BuzzKill is the app you are looking for, with his cooldown feature, it's $3.99 but here is the link if you want to Here.

Just a little FYI before you make a purchase, this cooldown feature is supposed to come on the next android version.

Thanks for your help, this is what I went with. I don't upgrade my phone often so will be a while before I get the new version of Android.

It has a setting to "cooldown" any conversation that notifies me more than once in quick succession

Also found it has a setting where if it sees a verification code, it copies it. Pretty handy too!

Cheers!

Edit - know what's fucking annoying. Yeah it stops the notification noise, not the notification itself. So my audiobook player still goes silent for five seconds then skips back a sentence! 😡

+1 for buzzkill in general though, it's a good app

Mine has a setting to not send more than one notification within X minutes I under settings > notifications > app notifications > some app > minimum time between notification sounds

Aw that sounds perfect. Unfortunately my S9 doesn't seem to have that

I seem to recall having this feature in the past, but I'm not sure which brand of phone that was. I don't see it on my Google Pixel now. Which brand/model do you have?

I use a pixel 2 XL, but I run lineageos 21, based on android 14. I also had the feature in lineageos 20 based on android 13.

It's possible this is a lineageos specific feature. A quick google seems to imply that this is likely so. Unfortunate :/

I think this was a new feature in the next version of Android. I don't know if there is anything at the moment however. Sorry.

I don't have a solution except assholes like that get muted.

When you get a notification, long press it and then set notifications to silent. It works on a per-user basis.

Signal has the option to mute the individual person for either 1 hour, 8 hours, 1 day, 1 week. I don't use other messenger apps apart from signal so I don't know about the others.

WhatsApp has had this for years. Telegram too.

That's nice to hear. I haven't used telegram in years so I don't recall and I've never used whatsapp. Don't know why I'm downvoted for just saying I'm not sure if these apps offer that feature.

My coworker who messages me gossip like it's a theatre performance.

Dude.
Duuuude.

And it always ends up being a let down.

I have one friend who does that and also uses texts as if they were emails (i.e. for random info that doesn't need immediate attention). I finally went into Contacts and set the text notification sound for her number to silent. So I see her texts when I happen to look at my phone. This works fine. The few other people I get texts from use them properly.

That's a valid use for texts? Calling is for immediate responses text is for whenever you feel you can get around to it.

Email is for attachments because, honestly, who emails each other when texting and IM exist

Email is like snail mail. It doesn't beep at you when it arrives, and you check it whenever. Text is like a pager because the audio alert interrupts whatever you are doing.

I don't have a single friend or family member who ever emails anyone other than a business. Texting is fine. Not all texts require an immediate response.

If you're doing something where you can't have interruptions, you can mute your phone or put it on vibrate.

I dunno. That's how all my friends and family communicate. Obviously, you do whatever suits you, but I think it's weird in 2024 for friends and family to be emailing each other.

When someone writes to me in that way , first time gets a warning ⚠️ second time gets blocked 🚫.

It works out of the box without any other apps.

Stop it [send] Mom [send] This is [send] your warning [send] ⚠️ [send] ... [send] Did you even read Mom ? [sent 53 photos]

Aggree with common sense, but more difficult to establish with some people.

If you want the markdown engine to preserve line breaks, you have to put two spaces after each line before you hit Enter.

Stop it[ ][ ]
Mom[ ][ ]
This is[ ][ ]
Your warning[ ][ ]

Etc.

Not the brackets, obviously, just two spaces.
