why not just monster meat, I think a dragon cut up and fried should be pretty tasty

A dragons meat would be somewhat toxic since it so high up in the food chain. It has a long life and a lot of prey that helps it bioaccumulate things like mercucry and lead.

Fire breathing dragons only eat coal

Coal-Cola, Coal-slaw; that sort of thing

Is a dragon a reptile or a bird?

Birds are reptiles, so both is possible.

But I'd say probably not a bird. In fact I'd say they branched off of stem reptiles before even mammals did.

I don't know about taste, but a hydra could theoretically provide an endless supply of food as long as you keep one neck uncauterized. You'd probably learn to like it.
