damned Millenials killing off overpriced, exploitative, mediocre restaurant chains …

Really. Like we’re supposed to care about the company run by another shell company, whose second shell company put the first company into this mess in the first place?

If you drastically hike up prices during a pandemic to make a profit, and follow up with never lowering them back down again, you’re gonna have a bad time.

don’t forget the wonderful combination of private equity and asset-stripping (what killed Red Lobster)

Americans need to realize the vulture capitalists are coming for their generational wealth and social security. As they continue to load up debt then leave the country.

What's funny is, I can't eat safely (allergies) at so many of these large scale chain restaurants, but the little shops by me do an incredible job. Not only do they have alternates, use separate cookware, etc, but it's also just better food.

That doesn't work for capitalism at scale, where they are eternally chasing profits by minimizing costs over everything else.

Side benefit for me is I get to support local business when I take my kids out. Just did that Friday with a small restaurant and a small batch ice cream shop, where I had a mojito + mint sorbet.

That doesn’t work for capitalism at scale, where they are eternally chasing profits by minimizing costs over everything else.

Everytime I watch one of those capitalist BJ shows (e.g. shark's tank, Gordon Ramsey's next food star, basically anything on CNBC, etc.), which I do far too often, and they ask the chum in the water whether or not the business can scale I think about how they're really asking whether or not the product can eventually be made terribly enough to net them a new mega yacht.

None of these chains need to be in business at all. Low-quality food at high prices.

Cracker Barrel can't keep employees for more than a few weeks. Maybe if they weren't driven away the customer experience wouldn't be as bad as it has become. I used to love going to CB but now? It's the same story as every other restaurant. Understaffed with inexperienced people making minimum wage.

But my hash brown casserole!

Edit: To hell with you random downvoter! Hash brown casseroles is the definition of comfort food!!!

If we love food so much, we need to learn to make it ourselves. Expecting minimum wage workers not paid enough to survive, to cook all your comfort food for you while you sit on your ass, needs to become a thing of the past.

That is some of the most Reddit shit I have ever seen.

I can cook way better than Cracker Barrel, and I can do it with fucking leftovers.

Did it tonight in fact, I made the best fried rice I have ever eaten tonight.

I still don’t want to do it every night.

Maybe rally for better conditions instead of shutting shit down.

But hell, I’m immune to logic over some of my moral decisions as well

Yep these are all pretty shit chains. Good riddance.

The only one actually going away on this list is Boston Market. All the others are pretty healthy when it comes to location count, but a few may continue their downfall

Oh man this hurts.

When I can’t find a nice dive bar I always go to the nearest Applebees to get drunk and fight.

The only thing on this list I would miss is Mod. They’re the only place I can get a real pizza for a reasonable price with all the anchovies ever.

Meanwhile, I celebrate their leaving. I don't think they are especially good and I find the whole calling topics "mods" thing too pretentious.

About half and half:

  • never heard of ‘em
  • wow, blast from the past! They still exist?

Not a single one I’ve been to in a lot of years
