The Boondocks referenced it explicitly as something that already existed (claiming Luther Vandross liked it).
As an Atlantan, I'm fairly certain a burger with Krispy Kreme doughnuts for buns was known to be a thing before that episode aired.

Local pub served these as the "glazed and confused" burger. Sooooo delicious
Back in college there was a restaurant on campus that sold "chicken donuts". it was a piece of breaded chicken in-between Krispy Kreme donuts with a slice of American cheese, and it was the most delicious thing I have ever eaten

...especially the corn syrup everything is laced with.
