Which upcoming games are you most excited for?

2023 is shaping up to be one of the best years for gaming in ages. From Tears of the Kingdom to Diablo IV to Street Fighter 6, it's already been a pretty great year, with quite a few big-budget releases coming later this year

Which upcoming game are you most excited for? Here's a rough timeline of some big ones.

  • Final Fantasy XVI (June 22)

  • Pikmin IV (July 21)

  • Armored Core VI (August 25)

  • Baldur's Gate 3 (August 31)

  • Starfield (September 6)

  • Mortal Kombat 1 (September 19)

  • Party Animals (September 20)

  • Assassin's Creed Mirage (October 12)

  • Lords of the Fallen (October 13)

  • Alan Wake 2 (October 17)

  • Spider-Man 2 (October 20)

Or maybe something else! What are you hyped for?

Haunted Chocolatier for me... The same guy who made Stardew Valley is making a new game. I look forward to it more than I am looking forward to Starfield.

I just recently got into Stardew Valley so this had not passed my radar yet, looks really promising from the early gameplay video!
Seems to be a more "active" game while retaining a lot of the charm, which I'm all for 🤩

Last update December 2021 makes me sad. I hope he has more updates soon!

He does more updates on twitter @ConcernedApe but it's still sporadic. Last update was in April and he said he's taking a break from Haunted Chocolatier to work on the new SDV update.

City Skylines 2! The trailer looked good and they are including more in the base then CS1, plus it seems they have responded to some feedback on cars and including parking for the amount in the game

Armored core 6! I've been waiting ages for a new installment. I'm so hyped for it that I took some vacation days for it.

As someone who played the first one back in the original Playstation, I'm beyond excited to get back into it. The trailers and gameplay details that came out recently are a huge part of that, too.

Oh man that recent gameplay footage that came out looked 10/10. I haven't been this excited for a new ip in awhile

Baldur’s Gate 1 & 2 were ones that I always enjoyed trying to play when I was younger, but never seemed to be able to survive for more than a few minutes. So I’d give up in frustration. Maybe I should give them another go before 3 comes out.

You can get both of them for your phone for a few bucks as well. That's how I played them for the first time and had a blast.

I'm looking forward to Stalker 2, if it happens to come out this year. Completely understandable if it doesn't.

Can't wait for Manor Lords.

Well I can wait because I think it'll be great after the demo.

The new Hellblade and the Cyberpunk DLC most of all. Talos Principle will be interesting at well even though I didn't finish the first one, something got in the way

Great list. And the first Talos principle was great (DLC less so). Also the ending had a great build up to the end, but the actual end cutscene was a little meh.

Baldur's Gate 3 that's (finally) coming out of EA in August.

Dare I say Silksong? The first game was perfect in so many ways, I’m really excited to see in what ways the improve and build on it.

Yes! I cannot wait. I hope we get difficulty settings this time, but if not I'll just have my SO get me out of any sticky situations like he did for Hollow Knight lol (like that one grub in queen's guarden... omg so much spiky death)

Silksong? There's no such thing as a game coming out called that. It doesn't exist. It is, and always has been, a figment of your imagination. There has never been a studio called Team Cherry. It's all lies.

Just played the demo of FF16 and yep, I'm sold. Can't wait for next week now!

Excited to get to BG3 at some point too. I love the bioware games and people speak very highly of Larian.

Talos principle 2. The first one was amazing. It's also kind of funny to me that croteam pretty much only made boomer shooters, and then threw out one of the most philosophical puzzle games I've ever played. It's like if after the transformer movies, Michael Bay decided to make 2001 a space odyssey, and then went back to making mindless transformers movies.

Assassins Creed! Love the series

I haven't played some of the recent games, but I liked the old format and look forward to Mirage's take on it.

Corepunk https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=d2eSk5Etz7M

It was announced several years ago. The development team was based in Ukraine. Since the military conflict started, production has drastically slowed. Most of the devs migrated to Greece. Been getting updates, but sporadically.

I am still holding hope for its release. From everything I have read/heard about the game, I believe the developers are trying to make sure they release a quality product, therefore part of the "slow to release" aspect.

Oh man there's a lot of games I'm looking forward to lol... Probably half of my Steam wishlist are just upcoming or Early Access games

Some of them include

  • Baldur's Gate 3
  • Cities Skylines 2
  • Frostpunk 2
  • Anvil Empires
  • Elysian Eclipse
  • Like a Dragon 8
  • Stormgate
  • Life by You
  • Avowed
  • Manor Lords

Cautiously optimistic about Starfield as well

Starfield and Armored Core VI in that order.

Been playing Skyrim for way to long and really hoping for a new game to scratch that itch.

I'm hyped for Starfield. Let's hope it's not another fallout 76. I'm waiting for some gameplay reviews before buying.

I really want to try armored core.

Cyberpunk 2077 Phantom Liberty

Which unfortunately gets released shortly after Starfield. I need to clone myself.

FF XVI, Starfield, Spider-Man 2 and Hellblade II are on my "most hyped for" list.
I haven't played the demo for FF XVI yet and I'm trying to keep away from spoilers and media until release day

I'm definitely cautiously optimistic for starfield, but I don't want to get my hopes up too high.

In general I'm excited by how many unknown but potentially interesting games that will come to the game pass. There were a couple of games that looked interesting in the xbox showcase but that I probably wouldn't want to pay for, but if they are in the game pass I'll definitely try them.

FFXVI, Armored Core 6, Starfield (after that presentation, was highly skeptical before), Mortal Kombat 1, Alan Wake 2, and Spider-Man 2.

I think all of them look great. FFXVI is my most anticipated overall. Ever since it was revealed in 2020 I've been sold on that game.

I don't think I could give an answer I wouldn't walk back on later, I'm just happy to see such an interesting and competitive year for the industry. Really hope this trend continues.

No one has mentioned them here yet, but I'm really excited for Payday 3 to come out. Especially with how well they've supported Payday 2 throughout the years. I'm also hoping they bring back Overdrill so I can go for it this time around.

On a more indie scale, I've been waiting for Bomb Rush Cyberfunk to release since I finished playing Jet Set Radio Future.

Super excited for Starfield just hoping Bethesda can deliver. I was super excited for Cyberpunk back before it launched and that obviously didn't go over too well.

Seems like a safe bet on PC. If Bethesda doesn’t fix any broken parts, the mod community usual does.

I'm waiting for

  • Cyberpunk 2077 DLC
  • Starfield
  • Cities Skylines 2
  • Kerbal Space Program 2 (1.0 release)

But before that I need to buy a new computer. Mine's too weak.

Number 1 for me are the Duke Nukem Collections for Evercade coming in November.

I played tons of duke3d as a kid so I'm excited to revisit it. But even more, I never got a chance to play the original DOS side-scrollers, so I'm pumped to get the new remastered versions. Even cooler that they're the first Evercade exclusives.

I never played duke3d but I grew up playing the side scrollers. I didn't know they were remastering those. Never heard of the Evercade and unfortunately another handheld isn't for me.

However the VS looks like something I could install into my cars headunit along with my Roku for when I'm just chilling, and less maint. than my raspberry. Thanks for this post. I have something to look into here.

I'm a big fan of Evercade. "Plug and play" is a big part of their philosophy, there is definitely less messing around with the VS than there would be for a Pi or any other RetroArch thing one might create themselves.

If you're okay with using Discord, I'd recommend dropping into the Evercade Discord if you have any questions or just wanna hang out - lots of friendly and knowledgeable folks (about Evercade specifically, or retro games in general), regular high score competitions, and it's just a good vibe. You can find the link in the Evercade website if you're curious.

EAFC, CP2077 Phantom Liberty, Spider-Man 2, Inazuma Eleven Victory Road, The Division Heartland, SW Outlaws, Rise of the Ronin

Path of exile 2 if it comes out this year. As well as life by you to finally give a sims competitor.

Life by You looked pretty rough last time they showed it, I hope they've polished it up a lot since then.

It releases in early access, so they aren't claiming that it's a finished product on launch.

I'm sure the devs are very aware that it doesn't look good visually. As long as they focus on the systems first that's fine by me personally.

Cities: Skylines II. But I am very cautious. All the recent games I looked forward to were disappointing.
