These Mormon women are rejecting Trump, fraying GOP support in a key state

"I remained a Republican until Jan. 6. And then I watched to see how the Republican Party would respond to the events that occurred," Lunt said. "And I wasn't pleased with that. And so I became an independent."

At least one person was able to see through the bullshit.

You mean after the infidelity and after the porn star scandal? Please. They pick the ideals they want to care about.

To be entirely fair, I'd say attempting a coup is a couple orders of magnitude worse than sex scandals.

1/3 of America is still thinking about it .... that alone is a worrying state of the country's mentality

??

Doesn't everyone pick their ideals to care about?

I think they meant how people will say they have a bunch of ideals, and only choose to act on a convenient subset.

Like how Republicans will say they're for family values, but won't do anything about that when it's inconvenient.

What endgame would you like to see for current (or past) Trump supporters? Because while I agree that it should have been obvious that Trump was bad for the country well before Jan 6, there is still a significant portion of the population that either didn't care up to that point or still doesn't care. If you think that is unforgivable, then what do you expect them to do if they become disillusioned with Trump and when the GOP is headed in general?

Something something about the best moment to join was yesterday, the second best moment is today

Never fails to amaze me that anyone who views themself as remotely pious could support trump. He's the epitome of antichrist, especially if you go by the bible definitions.

Those people have already built a lifestyle out of delusion. I've known "hardcore" "Christians" who were fervently pro-Trump. None of this is surprising.

Eh, I wouldn't regard Utah as a key state. It's extremely and safely red, and has only a few electoral votes anyway. But it's heartening to hear this.

The article seems focused on Arizona Mormons, and that's a swing state.

I just hope they help elect more democrats to house and senate

Ok, but who are they going to vote for? My bet is that they all fall into line in the end.

The article says they will be voting for Biden or at least some had a โ€œrepublicans for Bidenโ€ sign in their yards

The answer is in the first sentence of the article, jfc

And I don't believe any Republican that says they're going to vote for anyone other than a Republican. They always fall in line.

I think the Republican party selects for people who value group cohesion more than other values.

Because MAGA is a cult and votes are secret, I think you're going to see a decent difference between what the polls get and what votes are cast in this election.

This could be said for either way. We easily might wake up one November morning and learn of the impeding trump term. I wish it was going to be a clear and cut case since trump shouldnt even be allowed to run. But there are a lot of edgy young adults that probably wouldnt mind watching the world burn a bit more.
