"We're making something new but it's boring and will suck." said no one ever.
"We're making something new and don't have high hopes for it. Just don't even bother"
Anyway, here’s our new game Wonderwall.
We’re going for a cross between spore and star field.
A quote from Vincke at the end of the post only stokes the excitement further. "I don't know if we’re going to pull it off," he wrote
This is so refreshing. A studio with big Ws that still goes balls out and takes risks. You love to see it. Take notes, gaming studios. This is how you make fun games.
People didn't really like it when CD Projekt Red did that with Cyberpunk, and this is a pretty close mirror image of that..
Because they failed, but then still delivered an unfinished game. If CD PR was as well managed as Larian rather than being shareholders' bitch, they'de be releasing Cyberpunk right about now, properly finished.
The main problem with that one was a hypetrain without brakes that crashed into a solid wall of broken promises
People don’t like that cyberpunk was/is graphically unoptimized. If your computer can run it the game’s fine.
You're saying this like the reason everyone was pissed off about cyberpunk was because of anything other than it not being finished. STILL.
I am not one for company loyalty but larian, hasn't dissapoşnted me yet, let's see where this leads to
This is me being pedantic, but here goes: best work ever meaning this is as good as it gets, it's all down hill from here?
I know they mean best work yet but c'mon man, say what you mean.
Pedant!! Pedant alert!!
The studio would like to remind everyone that a group of Pedants is called a "Phlegm".
A group of redundants is called a redundants.
Okay Larian, let's maybe not get ahead of yourselves here. Your games have been decent to good so far, but you cannot predict the future like that and expect it to actually happen. A lot can happen in the like 7 years it will probably take you to develop your next game.
Slightly more context:
" "I don't know if we’re going to pull it off," he wrote, "but looking at our narrative, visual and gameplay plans, I think what we're working on now will be our best work ever." "
As a creative person myself, I think anyone that thinks the thing they are making is "their best one ever," I think they either have a massive ego bubble waiting to pop, or theyre planning on stopping their creative projects soon.
Well, you might reconsider whether thinking like that actually makes the world much less fun and tolerable to live in than not. No reason to be so cynical and self-centered, friend.
They reached a huge audience with bg3, seems like a mistake to act like they’re a too good to follow up on it. No one except hardcore rpg fans ever cared about Larian’s IPs
They didn't make more Bg3 because the teams heart wasn't in it. They didn't have the drive. You can mourn the departure all you like, but don't put words in their mouth. They've spoken on the decision, go read about it.
I believe the problem is that WOTC was incredibly hard to work with. They should have a lot more freedom with their own IP.
Hasbro is the core problem. Trying to squeeze WOTC for every penny
I've met more many people who have played divinity original sin 2 than the latest call of duty. If someone makes a good game, people play it.
Confirmation bias. A better judge would be actual player counts from Steam.
The point was that divinity original sin 2 is a very successful and popular game. I wasn't saying that divinity has more players, just that it's not a hardcore rpg fan only game.
That’s a huge shame. I found their IPs to be terribly boring and unimaginative compared to bg3. They aren’t that good at world building on their own imo.
I loved DOS:2 so I respectfully disagree with you. I'd love to see a DOS:3 with full voice acting and cinematics like they did in BG3.
Divinity 2 was amazing, although I got really bored when it came to Act 3

Act 3 was a slog.
