Tried joining Reddit again because of lack of activity in very niche communities, got banned again ,_,

Reddit improved their anti-ban evasion system, cuz it's the sixth or more failed attempt at evading a permanent ban. Never more, I am staying here.

FUCK YOU, SPEZ!

Ugh. So much to unpack here.

First off, you have to act like a massive shit-loaf to get perma'ed from Reddit in the first place. Now you're declaring your love for this community because you can't get back into Reddit.

Welcome, I guess.

Right. More often than not when these posts pop up you can check their comment history and see exactly why they keep getting banned.

I'm going through OP's comment history right now and I barely see anything iffy

Just reading some of the post is often enough.

In a lot of cases, yes. Not in all of them, due to bot-based bans.

It'd be a real shame if fascists were abusing the harassment report on anyone that disagrees with them.

Kind of funny that you mentioned fascists - my first permaban there was from telling Nazist to shoot himself like Hitler did. (10/10 experience, would get banned again.)

On-topic: I believe that abuse of the report function to get people banned is already a reality there for years. Not just from fascists; the typical Reddit user is petty, and I do think that the so-called voting brigades also abuse the report function.

One of my accounts was permabanned because a fascist spammer who ran some "anti-fascist" branded political spam subs kept reporting me for harassment when I linked to their own content in other subs, and I got bored of constantly appealing. Also reddit got rid of all their big subreddits and main accounts eventually. They're still on the site 24/7/365 on dozens of alts but they have a small audience now.

They were a semi-known personality on the site and had basically been banned from any sub they claimed to be politically aligned with, for self-promotion, being an asshole, etc. Had dozens of alts permabanned by reddit admins as well. Basically they had alts/personas that catered to different political views, like red pill content, liberal content, anti-fascist content, fascist pro-police content. They'd have alts with bios like "I'm a trans woman!" and "Go Zelenskyy! Slava Ukraine!" for whatever content they wanted to market to or identities they wanted to speak on behalf of. Oh and this was for profit, they had links to shitty self-published books and those websites where you can upload your designs, they sold shitty NFTs and comics. If you went to their book links there'd be 5 star reviews from people who only reviewed their books and suspicious stuff like that. The book's publisher would have books with different pseudonyms of his name, books about how men are only nice to women for sex, next to a book about being liberal, etc. It was like generated spam targeted towards all sorts of trending political topics.

I got permabanned arguing with right wing trolls. I don't think I was too bad, but maybe?

Who can say, right? The gears of Reddit are inscrutable.

That said, when you engage with an extremist, there's always 20 other extremists looking at your replies and just waiting to report you if you say the slightest mean thing. They are mucilaginous troglodytes and one mustn't extend to them the credence that they're dealing in good faith.

Yeah, I assume I got mass reported and the admins either didn't care to look at it or they're extremists themselves

I had an account perma'd there for saying "the only good nazi is a dead nazi" which I accept was against TOS but would argue does not make me a "massive shit-loaf"

I got perma banned for saying the mods ban people too easy and they need to rethink their criteria for ban Guess I'm a "massive shit-loaf" with you too

Likewise. The mods don’t like being told that. I got my account banned for agreeing with someone that they were too ban-happy. Appealed it, which of course was denied…

Fuck that shithole.

Amazingly his account here is banned now. I would argue that does make him a “massive shit-loaf”

Untrue

Yep I got permabanned for saying I'd lick the sweat out of a fat chick's folds for €20

Maybe the price was too high, I dunno

It’s actually not too hard to get perma’d due to a handful of bullshit/nonsensical bans that just stack up over time. Also, they were VERY liberal with the permaban hammer around when they announced the API lockdown.

I got permabanned on Reddit (it got turned around because even the mods of the subreddit and of other subreddits said it was bullshit) for making a joke about wishing Indiana's attorney general got punched in the face because he said something about something being a punch in the face. Like they banned me for jokingly wishing what he said happened to him metaphorically would just happen to him. Not saying someone should do it, certainly not saying I would do it, just wishing that it would happen. Permaban from all of Reddit for a joke that didn't actually call for violence and was clearly just referencing the post's headline.

Incorrect

I got banned by a bot because I went into an antivax subreddit to question them. The fact I posted on a “forbidden” subreddit got me auto banned by about a dozen subreddits, instantly. There was NO attempt to check the comment for context. Then I forgot I was banned by one of them and months later posted with another account and got permabanned for ban evasion. A 10 yr account down the drain.

My partner doesn't use reddit and hasn't used lemmy. She was permabanned despite not commenting or posting for about 6 months. The comments that were there were just asking questions about video games.

No reason or explanation was given. The only recent behaviour was subscribing to a trans-supportive community. We figure that might have pissed off an admin somehow. That's the only activity that she did during those 6 months. If either of us should have been banned, it should have been me, to be honest. We have different IPs, so there shouldn't have been any confusion on who was who. My account stayed active, even though I admittedly wasn't always friendly with people. Every account she made was also banned without reasoning.

I initially stopped using it because I thought that was dumb, then a few months later the whole API thing happened.

Best of luck to you, I hope you continue to have a better experience than we did lol.

I got banned from several subreddits for participating in r/conspiracy. By participating, i did some kind of bit with another user about OJ prices.

Beeing banned in a few subs and getting perma IP banned from reddit are two very different things.

I still don't know why Reddit permabanned me. They never gave me a reason, and when I submitted an appeal asking why I got banned I got what looked like an auto-reply saying "upon careful consideration....etc etc" Did I act like a shit-loaf? Idk, maybe? But if so I'd think they'd be able to tell me specifically why I deserved it.

Ugh. So much to unpack here.

I can't imagine a greeting more Lemmy than that

I wonder why I see it as cunty when people say "so much to unpack"?

You're all here rather than reddit. Nothing new.
