Huh. Crazy how all the violence has been perpetrated by Republicans. Almost as if there is hatefilled media driven messaging they are constantly exposed to and consume.

All Republicans including the guy who shot at Trump!

Have Trump or allies come out to declare him a RINO yet?

Well, they have already claimed that it was a hit ordered by Biden...

Which is now perfectly legal so what's their problem?

/s

Those rules were not meant for the current president! /s

You say that sarcastically, But I'll put 10 to 1 odds that at least one Republican lawmaker seriously makes that suggestion, and at least even money that says this Supreme Court would actually uphold it if it were to make it to court.

I say it sarcastically, but not without a hint of truth behind it. With the current political leanings of the Supreme Court, if Biden ever tried to off a political opponent as an official act, they would probably call for him to be impeached and hung for treason. If a republican did it, they would likely throw a pizza party and declare the act a necessity to preserve American politics.

Doubtful he was a republican, I'm pretty convinced he was libertarian. Just saying

Edit: Jesus, the mindless hatred. FWIW, I'm very anti Republican, but if you actually keep up with the information that has come out this dude was most likely libertarian.

Edit 2: based on news that came out today looks like he was conservative / republican

Libertarians are just Republicans who wanna smoke weed and not pay taxes

Be fair. They also don't like age of consent laws. Granted, Republicans don't either, but Libertarians are more open about it.

Whatever he was, he was registered Republican

Correct, in PA, a state which is known for people registering against party affiliations. His father, whose gun he used, is libertarian, and he donated to the Democratic party.

Registering as a Republican makes him a Republican no matter who he votes for.

You are thinking of libertarian vs conservative or liberal.

When you came to this conclusion, were you someplace dark that smelled like farts?

Except he registered Republican, his dad is lib his mom dem he as a contrarian is repub.

What reason do you even have to doubt his affiliation?

It wasn't much of anything being said, but I'm glad he ran the list of the more prominent acts of violence coming from the right before mentioning Trump.

"The attempt on my life has left me scarred and deformed, but I assure you my resolve has never been stronger." Supreme Chancellor Trump on next speech

'only i took a bullet for this country. you have to vote for me!'

Good to see megathreads again

I personally hate mega threads. It fucks with front page algorithms. Sometimes I'm not even aware of large events because I didn't know there was a mega thread on a specific community that you might not see if you're just looking at your front page, depending on how late the mega thread gets to the scene. Or newer articles with additional detail revitalizing the discussion under a new post.

I would rather comb through a couple threads, which tend to have some subtly different angles on the overall discussion.

But I think I'm in the minority.

Lemmy's "active" sort involves recent comments AFAIK, so if you're sorting by that you should see megathreads.

I don't know if the algorithm has been tuned better, but I have totally missed big events until someone has directly mentioned it to me, because of mega threads. I suspect it may because the initial burst of community participation may happen in the first couple threads, and by the time a mod comes in and either uses an existing one as a mega thread, or starts a new thread, the participation has waned, so minor stories rise above.

I heard, by mouth, that Trump had been shot about an hour after it happened. It was no where on my front page, either "Active" or "Top Six Hours". I had to go to the News community directly to find it.

Next one is coming tomorrow for the Republican Convention.

Where everyone is going to pay attention. Because he's coming back from the shot.

He should have fucking LAID INTO Republicans. They've been publicly inciting political violence for nearly a decade now and THIS is the result. It's their fault and the only redeeming feature was that this was an own goal. We're all lucky they haven't attacked Democratic politicians yet.

Violent Republican rhetoric is not acceptable. If they don't stop NOW this is only the beginning. Let out Dark Brandon and let them hear the fucking truth instead of this weak "violence isn't acceptable" shit. Of course violence isn't acceptable, we're the party of "violence isn't acceptable". Republicans should stop inciting political violence and maybe this would stop. Trump has even promised a secretary of retribution and half of the list is OTHER Republicans. It's no surprise the people attacking him are other Republicans.

I mean. They fucking laughed hammer smashed face, incite violence and then blame Democrats when it's literally all their fault

"But in America, we resolve our differences in the battle box!" -POTUS

Um... yeah, Joe, that's sorta the problem right now.

Speech tl;dr: "My fellow Americans, cool your fuckin jets and play nice."

Kinda weak imo. While yes, it'd be nice if people weren't so dissatisfied with politics that they turn to violence, let's maybe address some of the things that are making people unhappy instead of just telling them to remain passive in the face of existential threats to our rights, our nation, and our planet.

Not to knock Biden specifically - this is just the state of our politics. Please do still put the Biden in the ballot (NOT battle!) box, or it gets the Nazi again.

The man has had a stutter all his life. You making fun of a disability?

The disability? No. The sentence it produced, given the context of the event that just happened? Yes.

That said, the meat of my last post was the criticism of the message. Beyond a chuckle at "lol, battle" I don't really care that he misspoke. I do care that we're being told to just sit pretty in the midst of things like the planet burning up and the Nazis coming back. He talks about us settling our differences of opinion with civility like the opinion being discussed is whether or not pineapple is good on pizza... we got bigger fish to fry. One of those fish already had its own world war; we fried it the first time with a fuckton of violence. If violence isn't the way this time around, what's the plan? Voting is good and well: do it! I definitely will. ...but we've been voting, and the existential threats persist. He wants us to be nice and quiet. Okay... so give us a road map of how that's going to actually work.

Biden's biggest problem is assuming the opposition is arguing from a position of honest disagreement. They aren't. Everyone knows they aren't. Biden's insistance that they are good people and honest brokers he can deal with is incredibly naive for an 81 year old.

And Trump is a sociopath, you discriminating against his disability? Biden can't carry a sentence because he's old as fuck combined with a stutter. We all know Biden is the better option, but don't be a gaslighting little bitch and pretend it isn't real.

Sociopathy isn't a disability, is a personality disorder.

So Fuckface 45 can fuck off, and his apologists, too.
