Did you reuse your Reddit name or create a new one?
I originally went with the same name but have been using this one now since it's new and the idea of starting fresh appeals to me.
My initial thought was to reuse my existing name so others who already knew me might see that I'm here since we never communicated outside of the given subs we were apart of. I'm not sure how likely that would actually be though. It's not as if I was anyone popular or well known. So, my thinking is I'll stick with my new one and move on.
What have you chosen to do? Start fresh or carry your username over?
I use this UN basically everywhere. Here is no different.
Same. I've been justinh_tx for 20 years or more on just about every site/service that let's you have an underscore in your username. If I can't have an underscore I'm justinh512tx.
Replying to you. I’m brand new here and wondering how in the fuck do I leave a reply to the thread? The only reply button I see is for other comments not to the post.
The comment box is at the bottom of the stack of comments, so you have to scroll to almost the entire bottom of the page to start a parent comment.
You use the text box at the bottom of the page for replying to a thread.
I…uh, went with a classic.
I decided on a totally new name. New place, new name
I even did a new email since I didn't want my username tied to my primary one!
New name new email also. This is my first comment.
New one. And i had an extremely scientific observational method for coming up with it.
Ditto
Used the same username. I am envisioning a future in wherein whenever somebody needs to search up something on Google in regards to some tech issue/opinion, instead of putting "best gaming laptop 2023 reddit", they will instead search "best gaming laptop 2023 kbin"
I'm using a new one. I like a change!
Changing usernames and/or deleting mature accounts can be an approach to privacy that may be useful. Tracking algorithms from huge tech companies might be sophisticated enough to identify you anyway with information like public IP/location and browsing habits, plus who knows what else.
Nevertheless, I still change usernames frequently.
Same. After using the same account for a couple years it occurred to me that just by observing what subs I post in you could pretty easily figure out who I was if you were looking for me. Sub for my job, city, hobbies, chronic disease, etc. I figured there's no good way around that other than just lurking, but since there's not a lot of benefit to having an old account I might as well get a new one every year or two. Make myself just a little bit harder to find.
Yep this is what I do too. If you’re active in discussions the longer you have your account the more likely it is that it can be linked to your real self
Same. It has sentimental value so I wanted to keep it.
I did not. Sometime last year I changed my username to this across all platforms, but Reddit wouldn't let me change it.
Went with a new one. Still sci-fi inspired but wanted that "fresh start" feel
My Reddit name pre dates Reddit by more than a few years. It will outlast Reddit if I have my way.
I took the opportunity to ditch the edgelord name I came up with when I was 14
I’ve got a new username. Starting fresh! But tbh I tend to clear down and get a new username every so often anyway. Probably just being paranoid but feel like it keeps my account more anonymous.
New name. Old name was a wayy different me anyways
Yeah, my reddit name was way different. Ths name is the name I've been using on various other platforms for the past few years, so now my main usernames are similar.
I think my name says it all
8^)
Same one for me.
Back in my beginning days in Reddit, I originally wanted to register "wooferine" but it was already taken., so I chose "woooferine" instead.
Yes, I kept the extra "o" here. My g-board knows my username, so why change it?
This was my preference there but wasn't available. Now it's MINE!
I went with a new one. Fresh start and all.
Mine was from an old open source project. I no longer use it and have started to use a different name elsewhere - would have changed it on Reddit too if Reddit had allowed it.
Yes, but no. It's inspired by my Reddit username, but I managed to get a much much shorter variant on Kbin, lol.
VulcanSphere is my username (almost) everywhere within the cybersphere.
So, yeah. Stick with a recognisable name.
New one. My reddit one is from over a decade ago. While most of my online stuff is using that ancient name, I've started using a few more since then. Granted I'm re-using one of my newer names, but still
I’ve been Takeshidude since I was maybe 11 back on Lego.com
Feels wrong to have any other name
New one, wanted this from the beginning but was already taken on Reddit 10+ years ago
Hey, aren't you that guy Raymond? Think I'll remember you lol
Same one, just signed up after finding this site yesterday night :)
New one I wanted a something that would make me look like the "cream of the crop"
Ooh yeah!
This is a new one. I thought it'd be a great chance to come up with some cool new name but I feel kinda "meh" about it.
Completely new name, I had like, 10 reddit accounts, I'd make a new one every year to avoid anyone potentially stalking me
I was pretty hyped to snag “daddy”
I'm using the name I would've used had it not been taken.
This is one of three nicks I use all over the web. One for social media, one for shooters, and one for MMOs.
So yeah, kept my /u/ from Reddit.
new to try and get a more basic name
i wouldn't share names cuz then i'd have ppl know who i was, bad OPSEC. Instead, I doxx myself here so that others cannot doxx me.
New name....have been changing some names around recently. Pretty easy to spot my accounts with my avatar though.
I tried to reuse my name but I've messed up something and can't login anymore, just made a new one numbered
I went with my alt username. My Reddit username was the first part of my gmail address because I was dumb 14 years ago (well, dumber, anyway) and didn’t know you couldn’t change it.
I was u/CanadaPlus101. Same thing for continuity, but I could drop the numbers.
I should put my old user in my profile.
I went new but it's an old handle. I missed it.
I use random one all the time. I mostly lurk anyway, but I'll post more on Fediverse.
I got my IRL nickname here, no need to reuse my random Reddit name.
I reused my Reddit username. I kind of identify with it. I love healthy curiosity and Lynx are my favourite wild animal.
Also, I suspect I copied some nonverbal communication clues from the cats we had growing up, such as slow-blinking upon eye contact to indicate everything's fine. So a username that can be interpreted to mean I'm feline seems fitting.
Been using this name since I had a Xbox 360. It almost feels more familiar than my real name.
I kept mine. Previously I only used this handle for Reddit, but now I have it here (and on Metafilter, where I created a new account after flouncing 10+ years ago—seems weirdly fitting as I originally learned of Reddit’s existence from Metafilter.)
new one. I don't like any consistent data to tie things together. When I talk about myself I regularly will change details or I will use conistant details that are not quite right. Like my birday. 01/23/1987 although I have used 01/23/1942 but that makes me a bit to old to be believable so I changed it.
The original name I wanted on Reddit was taken. Here it was not, so I changed.
I’m using a very old username that I never used on Reddit. My Reddit username is retired.
i slightly adjusted mine
Same username as everywhere, Reddit was actually the first account I made under this name
Same one as on reddit. :)
super old username.
New. I didn't need to consult some name generator this time to find something I liked. I thought about getting something crude but I'm going to be using this account for quite a while so I chose this.
My Reddit username was a really old one that I had switched from using a good number of years ago. So my KBin username is different, but it's the one I'm using on basically everything else.
I created a new one as all the short ones were long gone at Reddit.
Reddit doesn't really have the option to change your username IIRC so I am using the name I would have used on Reddit if it wasn't for my dumb teenage brain at the time :P
I reused the username I originally used when I moved to Ruqqus 3 years ago. I've been all over the place ever since, and I've seen many of these alternatives inevitably fall. Ruqqus, Voat, Votal, Syzitus, Saidit is somehow still active.
It may be something new to many of you, but at this point I've seen enough sites shut down. I don't mean to come here with bad vibes, but it's not easy to be optimistic anymore.
I still miss Ruqqus from time to time, despite not sharing the opinions of a good portion of their user base, I never had a bad experience, even though I did pock the hornet's nest a few times.
I use the same username on minecraft which was weirdly enough already in use in reddit. Now I can use it on lemmy.
New name. Seemed time for a change/simplification.
I use a different user name on every site these days. Not that UberMegaDataAIBot can't track me if it tries, but I don't need to make it easy for it.
My Reddit name is a button mash because signups weren’t working. Then they were.
Same one cuz lazy
Different name, although this is the one I use everywhere else. I just wasn’t early enough to nab it on Reddit ;)
Spiffy
Hah! Funnily enough that’s what I do if the former is already taken on a site…SpacemanSpiffy
I've been wanting to use a different username for a while now cause I've been using the same one literally since AOL. but I couldn't think of a new one until a few months ago and this was the perfect time to use it. And it fits me more.
Same one! ;-)
Different name.
My reddit name was what I called the car I was driving at the time or making my account, many years ago. The car I’m driving now, I call The Attack Bunny….
New name, I always preferred the anonymity of reddit, even if you could technically trace someone with enough post history. So, starting with a new name starts that tracing who I am fresh. After 9 years of Reddit, I am sure my old name had a lot of info about me as a whole.
Twist: your old username was RegularWolf. :p
Nice try, FBI.
We'll take it from here.
my old name was u/Spez, but nobody seems to like me on reddit.
so i came over here and changed my name.
Do you guys need a CEO?
How much do you like money?
