so Twitch is blocking Firefox now... EDIT: It was my firefox's enhanced security causing the problem.

From the twitch pages

The desktop web browser experience of twitch.tv and supporting sites, officially support the latest two versions of Google Chrome, the latest two versions of Mozilla Firefox, the most recent version of Microsoft Edge, and the most recent version of Apple Safari.

What's your browser version OP, so we can rule out whether it's just a version issue

I recently switched to pop!_OS, doesn't it come with the latest version?

Not out of the box

so I checked and it was the latest version, the problem was firefox's enhanced security option, it works after I disabled it. https://lemmy.ml/comment/2886486

Wouldn't that still be Twitch's fault for not supporting a browser with added security features? Or am I misunderstanding something?

most browsers don't support the strict security option firefox has

I understand that from a technical level. But the solution is "we'll make it work" and not "either use a less secure tool, or lower security on what you are using". In my opinion this is a problem that Twitch needs to fix, not work around.

Theoretically you are absolutely right. Problem is, the user base Firefox and especially the enhanced security have is probably not huge enough for them to bother.

It may be the latest version but they just don't handle user-agent strings very well.

I had the same problem as Op.

for over a year i couldnt log into my twitch account cause it kept pissing and moaning about my browser not being supported, despite being on a supported version and browser.

persisted through reformats, through LiveCD tryouts, different physical computers, browser resets/reinstalls, and with all addons uninstalled and/or disabled.

Only recently started working again for some reason.

I'd wager twitch is just shit at shit.

thank god I wasnt a streamer wasnt financially dependent on it.

works fine for me on firefox with ublock origin.

Same for me. I even tried connecting through Serbia^1^ with my VPN, and it still works.

  1. Which, legend has it, results in no ads being served via Twitch

Does that work with Serbia as well? :o I thought it was only Russia, hopefully my VPN has Serbia

I honestly haven't heard Russia mentioned, just Serbia, but could be

It's hard for me to verify since I don't watch much of anything on Twitch that's not just personal friends streaming a game

Really? Seems to work fine for me, for now.

If you have resist fingerprint on, or use Librewolf, then you need to disable resist fingerprint, clear twitch cache and cookies then restart firefox/librewolf. Go back to twitch, log in (remember me for 30 days), and you should pass twitch's integrity check on login and be through.

This is what I do with my setup on Librewolf:

  • Disable resist fingerprinting, disable silent canvas blocking
  • Disable ad-blocking/tracking extensions - uBlock Origin, Decentraleyes, TTV Pro LOL etc. (sometimes I need to do this for twitch integrity check to pass. This should only happen once during the authentication request).
  • Clear cookies and site data (via lock symbol on the left-side of the URL bar)
  • Close browser
  • Open browser and login to twitch
  • Re-enable extensions and resist fingerprint

oh, yes I have resist finger printing on.

For me (on Librewolf and Floorp), it was just enabling WebGL, opening Twitch, logging in, and then disabling WebGL. RFP didn’t have any effect, at least back then.

I am able to login just fine. Is your Firefox browser up-to-date?

in my case my user agent switcher was blocking it

I love when pages tell me my browser is not supported and it's just the agent switcher choosing win7 with internet explorer 8

Working fine for me. Do you have an older version installed or a fork?

update: It still works with firefox, the culprit was firefox's enhanced security thing in the settings. It works now after I disabled it.

A tale as old as time.

Wait what. You can edit the title on Lemmy. Why didn’t Reddit have this feature?

It has its pros and cons. Helpful for typos, but it could also be easily misused.

Bold move. There’s not anything on there worth me disabling my adblocks, cookie blockers, etc that I wont see in clips in youtube before they pull the same stuff

For me FF and Librewolf work on Windows. Don't work on Arch.

Switched to Chatterino and Streamlink

Have you set any fingerprint-blocking settings or installed any addons that provide fingerprint blocking? Twitch tries to fingerprint during login and will fail if it can't. The Charmeleon addon for example is one addon I need to deactivate in order to log in.

I block Twitch from my Firefox, how 'bout dat?

Seriously, I've never gotten a second of joy from Twitch, it's just the most pointless thing imaginable. And even if I wanted to use it, I would be unwilling based on the fact the site assaults you with random streams that you can't turn off as soon as you go there.

It's still bad, but not that bad if you always go to a specific steamer. But it's easy for me to tell this because instead of the garbage player if theirs I watch everything in MPV

I'll never understand why people want to watch other people play a game normally, when you could just play the game yourself.

Now speedrunning videos make sense and are the only kind of game streaming I'll watch. But not on Twitch, cause who wants to watch someone fuck up and restart the game for hours on end, when you can just see the highlights on YouTube?

Exactly. You're getting tons of downvotes but I agree. I like "funny" gamers collected moments, like Dunkey videos, and speed runs, but I have zero interest in watching normal people just playing and annoyingly reading their chat window aloud.

It’s the enhanced tracking protection that is built into Firefox. Disable it. Login. Re-enable. Had this issue for months now.

It's the add-ons or if you modified some strict privacy settings, I had the issue with librewolf

If I ever watched Twitch I'd be pretty disappointed but I don't get the appeal of watching someone else play most of the time. Same with sports: They can be fun to play but watching other people play is mostly just boring.

I usually watch smaller streamers and chat with them :> Never watched big streams because they're just super boring.

I can see the appeal of watching someone play from an edited video. But watching it live seems like a total waste of time for me.

Especially on Twitch where you can pause properly.

I stopped using Twitch since the Amazon acquisition. In fact, I don't use any Amazon services (except for some other services that are unfortunately hosted on AWS)
