I don't think that's exclusive to Americans, not even close

What the US calls drunk is just European for an afternoon toast.

This sounds like a boast but it's actually sad? Like I live in Europe and a lot of people I know seriously have functional alcoholism, but it's normal enough that nobody thinks it a problem until it is. Alcohol is a pretty strong drug. It doesn't matter if you can "take it", it's still doing things in your body.

Please let me introduce you to Wisconsin.

Everyone's all "I don't know how InBev became a multibillion dollar global juggernaut corporation, it must have been YOU slovenly alcoholics!"

The Scots are in the corner, leaning a bit too hard on the bricks, like "If it's named after your country you pretty much HAVE to drink it! At least we don't have problems with beer so long as you keep the pint up straight!"

I can't understand German so I'm sure that's why they all sounded so muddy when they talk. Not the huge steins of beer. No. Don't be silly.

Spiderman pointing at Spiderman pointing at Spiderman until we all fall the hell down. It's nice to have something in common.

OP: Russians are not a thing, not at all.

They won't be if Putin keeps sending them to die in Ukraine

Doesn’t mean they won’t be drinking, though

Was gonna say, hold my pint (but only after I've drunk it).

Also US pints are pussies, they should just switch to metric. Meanwhile UK pints are king.

they should just switch to metric

Can you imagine a place that uses imperial units next to metric units, in some unholy alliance that’s clearly worse than imperial units alone? Welcome to the UK, bruv.

I mean we use US customary and metric too, but US customary measurements aren't always the same as Imperial.

1 US pint = 16 US fluid ounces

1 British pint = 20 British fluid ounces

But wait!

1 British pint = 19.2 US fluid ounces

Would you like to know more? Probably not, but anyways: https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Comparison_of_the_imperial_and_US_customary_measurement_systems

In real money:

1 US pint = 473ml

1 UK pint = 568ml

Meanwhile the standard metric measure is 500ml. So US would benefit from dropping the pint in favour of metric, while UK drinkers would be understandably reluctant. Unfortunately, most UK bottles are now 500ml, thanks to shrinkflation. Newcastle Brown held out for a while, so did ciders, but these days pint bottles are quite rare.

Even better, we refer to bottles of liquor as a pint, a fifth and a handle. A pint is 375ml, a fifth is 750ml and a handle is 1.75l. Not even mixed - metric volumes with US customary names.

The US is generally a lightweight on this front.

France:

Do we drink?

Well, are we going to eat? Like sometime in the future.

Everyday is a holiday when you are on Lemmy!

... I really should drink less.

Nah I don’t really drink. Let me go hit my vape pen or pop an edible real quick. It brings me physical comfort and mental happiness.

Drunks after they finish their fist fight: “Eww get out of here, druggie!”

You're very judgemental for someone with mental happiness.

It was supposed to be a commentary on the social acceptance of some drugs but not others.

I can see it must read in a much more bitchy way than intended.

lol that’s facts

yikes lemmy fuckin hated this comment

I'll say it with my chest, FUCK ALCOHOL, shit is poison that ruins lives
