Why does being tall make your belly more vulnerable in case of an attack?

BeReady77@lemmy.world to No Stupid Questions@lemmy.world – 1 points –

I (20m) am 6'5" tall. One of my female friends who's 5'5" told me that my height makes my belly particularly vulnerable in case if I get attacked with a pocket knife, for example. Why is it so?

Honestly, if someone pulls a knife you're fucked anyway. I like to say that the best sport for self defence is track running. Less risk of being injured, and no risk of dealing with legal consequences of injuring someone.

The loser of a knife fight dies in the street. The winner dies in the ambulance.

Yeah, last time someone tried to mug me, I realized he had two buddies behind me forming a triangle around me.

Like, I'm a big guy, the three of them added together might have had 50 pounds on me tops. And I was drunk and stupid enough I was just going to fight my way out of it.

But after a punch to the face I sobered up enough to realize what was going on and that if either of those guys behind me had a knife I was completely fucked. And we were in a nightlife area where there was literally at least one stabbing a weekend.

So I just made a path thru the one in front of me and gtfo.

I don't know if muggings are as popular as they used to be now that no one carries cash, but if I see a gun or knife I'm 100% giving it up.

I'd probably try to take my ID out first. But even that's a mild inconvenience, nothing close to getting shot/stabbed over.

My plan A was terrible tho...

Plan B was throwing one into a bush and jogging backwards towards a busy area. That worked out much better than getting stabbed a block away from safety.

At last, the justification I needed for wearing a chainmail undergarment!

But seriously this does actually explain why. A taller person’s stomach is closer to a shorter person’s shoulder-level, making it easier to stab.

Is this a novelty account or something, what's with the fixation on your belly? You've been milking this subject for 2 months.

Yeah I noticed that. This is the second day in a row I've seen a post like this

A month ago he was asking people in the comments if his height makes his belly more vulnerable to attacks. Definitely this post is disingenuous, even if we can't figure out the motive.

I prefer freaks like this to the ad bots on Reddit at least!

Just wait for their next phase when they start shilling for their Kevlar girdle startup...

The Internet is a strange place because people are strange. Curious.

Not seen the other posts, but maybe the question has not been answered or the answer they are looking for hasn't been said

So he was wondering in two other posts about belly wounds from swords and asked if being tall made him more vulnerable. And then by coincidence a coworker told him that being tall made him vulnerable to being stabbed in the belly by a pocket knife? And he didn't know what she meant by that but had asked others the same question a month earlier?

Maybe she's really bad at flirting?

I'm guessing she meant that it's a larger target so it would be easier to hit vs. trying to stab a smaller person

Well, it's shoulder height to her.

With her perspective it's like a big punching bag just hanging there.

Are internal organs proportionally larger on tall people, or are the the same size as those in short people but with more empty space around them? If it’s the latter, then being tall would probably give you a better chance of surviving a single random stab to your stomach area right?

I would ask the person making the claim to explain why they think so.

Who knows why she thinks this?

Asking here is begging the question.

I don't think its so but if I was to work assuming the hypothesis was correct the only thing I could point to is a bigger person is a bigger taget which would apply to all targets of the body.

Unless you have disproportionately small arms, I don't know why she would think that. It's not like my arms are disproportionately shorter to the rest of my tall-ass body. They fall around the same place as a short guy's would and I can block as well as anyone else at my level in the martial arts classes I've taken.

Also you seem oddly fixated on belly related attacks and wounds. Are you in danger of being stabbed or thinking of stabbing someone else?
