U.S. is sending a carrier strike group closer to Israel and will begin supplying munitions starting today
The U.S. military is moving an aircraft carrier strike group and military aircraft closer to Israel as a show of support, and will also begin supplying Israel with munitions and other military supplies immediately, said Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin.
Austin said Sunday afternoon that he had directed the USS Gerald R. Ford Carrier Strike Group to go to the Eastern Mediterranean. The group includes the carrier, a Ticonderoga-class guided missile cruiser, and four Arleigh Burke-class guided missile destroyers. “We have also taken steps to augment U.S Air Force F-35, F-15, F-16, and A-10 fighter aircraft squadrons in the region,” he said. “In addition, the United States government will be rapidly providing the Israel Defense Forces with additional equipment and resources, including munitions. The first security assistance will begin moving today and arriving in the coming days."
“Strengthening our joint force posture, in addition to the materiel support that we will rapidly provide to Israel, underscores the United States’ ironclad support for the Israel Defense Forces and the Israeli people,” said Austin. “My team and I will continue to be in close contact with our Israeli counterparts to ensure they have what they need to protect their citizens and defend themselves against these heinous terrorist attacks.”
Israel has its own military industry that is very advanced and substantial, shaped by their forever war, so I'm sure they can get by without US support for far longer than Ukraine currently can.
It's ok, americans don't have healthcare so they can afford to wage wars all over the place
Universal healthcare is cheaper per-capita than the system the US has. The US would be able to spend even more on the military if they fixed that. The military isn't why the US doesn't have a better healthcare system.
Maybe someone needs to phrase it like that to their politicians.
No, the inefficiency is the point, it’s how healthcare is such good business in the US. And since companies are people, and people have the right to free speech, and since political donations are speech, then companies have the more speech than all the other citizens combined, and the politicians listen (The euphemism for this is “Citizens United”).
You cant because the health care industry is
bribinglobbying those politicians to keep it that way.In a way it is.
You get free health care while you serve and the VA after. Yes, the VA is not great but it is still way, way better than no health care at all. So having shitty health for the general public care makes joining more attractive.
Same with the GI bill and the cost of university.
Service guarantees citizenship!
We don't have free healthcare, in part because we are paying for Israel's free healthcare.

Israel already receiving US support since 1973. So that ship has sailed, so to speak.
Can the US provide this same sort of support to Ukraine, where it just gives stuff to that country? Does that need to be approved by Congress, or because it’s not “spending” money it doesn’t need their approval?
It needs approval from Congress but they got that approval 70 years ago and it's never expired.
Israel is the #1 recipient of foreign aid from the US. (Before the Ukraine war). Egypt, by treaty, received 10% of what Israel gets. That makes Egypt the #2 recipient of foreign aid.
The next country we voluntarily give foreign aid to receives less than 10% of what we give Israel.
Uh oh. Does anyone know of Israel has another ‘sink a US Navy ship and get out of jail free’ card?
I musta forgot about that… when? Why? How?
Uss liberty
That was mega fucked up. The fact they still get foreign aid boggles the fucking mind.
Had to look it up myself. Had never heard of it before though I'm not American or Israeli. Very interesting read.

im all for arming ukraine with the russian invasion but does isreal really need munitions to fight hamass?
until they straighten out their fucking right wingers, the Israelis can suck shit as far as this American is concerned.. i'm not here to support Bebe in his antagonistic bubble, in his perfect little war that he needed.. fuck him.. throw him out first, then we'll talk, assholes..
i bet those resources would be more useful in the ukraine
Point of note - it's just 'Ukraine', not the Ukraine. 'The Ukraine' is a label used by those who see the nation as a region part of Russia. Small, but important thing I had to change when referring to it as well.
Hence why a certain someone would really rather that not to happen:-D.
Donate a carrier strike group?
Problem would be over in a weekend
The United States is not going to send an aircraft carrier up against a nuclear power, for obvious reasons.
This is the best summary I could come up with:
The U.S. military is planning to move U.S. Navy ships and military aircraft closer to Israel as a show of support, according to two U.S. officials familiar with the planning.
The movements could start immediately but all the assets, specifically the ships, will not be in place for several days.
The U.S. is also working through plans for a possible non-combatant evacuation — helping Americans get out of Israel.
Nothing has been decided or ordered, but officials are working through options, including one that involves putting some Americans on the Navy ships to get them to safety.
The original article contains 97 words, the summary contains 97 words. Saved 0%. I'm a bot and I'm open source!
Why they didn't send them to black sea?
Turkey would not let them pass, part of international treaty. Warships cannot come in or out if they are going to participate in a war. Don't know they exact details.
I believe the treaty limits the weight of the ships that can pass (with a prior notice) to 15000 tons which an aircraft carrier easily exceeds. This ruling is though I believe for the peace times, I don't know if Turkey has to be at peace or the country the ship is headed for.
Also the treaty states that a ship that enteref through Turkey can be present at black sea for a maximum of 21 days.
At this point it'd be nice if we did more than just a show of support.
No thanks, US soldiers don’t need to die for Israel’s mistakes.
I was moreso thinking for the murdered US citizens, and the US citizens taken hostage.
They knew the risks and that does sound cruel to say but it is very true. Bombings throughout the middle East in general and specifically between Israel and Hamas have been happening for decades. You don't go to an apartied country that is actively trying to annex it's neighbor and get to play surprised that bad shit happens.
Fair, but I know a lot of people that have moved to Israel. They know very well the volatility of the situation. It's like saying the US should airlift American citizens who traveled to the Afghanistan countryside.
I think the $4 billion we've been sending Israel every year since the 90's is enough support.
Yeah like maybe invade Israel and remove the cunts in charge.
