What Lemmy communities would you like to share that we may not know about?

Scrubbles@poptalk.scrubbles.tech to Asklemmy@lemmy.ml – 137 points –

I'm noticing an influx of Reddit users today, maybe revolving around their weird bug they had today. I know this question pops up semi regularly, but for those just getting their foot in the door maybe we can help show them what else is out here on the Fediverse to help them get started.

I'll kick us off, to any newcomers, I help run the following communities, and we'd welcome you to any of them. (Shameless self promotion I know, but I hope more people join in sharing theirs as well)

For help and support, taken right from the sidebar of AskLemmy here

An important one to kick off, we do have an entire community just for this over at !communitypromo@lemmy.ca (https://lemmy.ca/c/communitypromo) for a more long-running conversation

For new users, I hope you find some communities that you enjoy! For current users, share your favorite communities that new folks may be interested in! (Please use both the !@_ notation and give a link, to help our new fediverse people out in learning how it works)

I'll never pass up a chance to promote !superbowl@lemmy.world (Owls, not the NFL thing)

It's always nice to see some jokes stick around, I hope when I die this is still a joke. (No sarcasm either, I truly love it and how much it annoys some people)

Wow, didn't know this was a thing. I was watching What They Do in the Shadows recently and there's a Superbowl episode.

Does it actually annoy people? Wow, that makes it even funnier.

I also endose this recommendation!

!superbowl@lemmy.world has everything for your owl related needs!

Love cats? Try owls, the cats of the sky!

We've got cute owls, angry owls, stern owls, and silly owls.

White, brown, red, grey, big, medium, and small!

Find out where to meet owls or how to get started working with owls.

If you want hard science or fluffy photos, !superbowl@lemmy.world has got it, and if we don't have it, we'll get it!

We're pretty consistently in the top trending communities for a niche group, and there's an ever growing number of fans checking in daily.

"Come on down to to Anon6789's Outrageous Owl Emporium on 100th st!"

Hey, admin of programming.dev here

Heres a nice selection of communities from various of the topic instances including ours that might be nice for most people

  • !science@mander.xyz - mander is the science and nature instance with this being one of their main communities
  • !programming@programming.dev - main community for the programming.dev instance which is the instance for programming
  • !gaming@lemmy.zip - main community for the lemmy.zip instance which has most of the game communities so far in lemmy
  • !software_gore@programming.dev - community that just got started up in programming.dev where you can post any software malfunctions you come across
  • !android@lemdro.id - main community in lemdro which is focused primarily around android

edit, heres some more:

Not a specific community, but check out everything on mander.xyz if you haven't yet. Lots of great science related communities on there. It's already a pretty active instance but would love to see the communities on there get even more love.

Good rec, the mander.xyz stuff is great.

Wow I had no idea this entire instance existed, and there's some heavy following too, I'll definitely be subbing to some of those communities

1 more...

A community for EMS professionals that I manage and desperately want to see more activity in:

!ems@lemm.ee (https://lemm.ee/c/ems)

A community for sharing spooky stories, doesn't matter if they're true or not:

!rag_and_bone@lemm.ee (https://lemm.ee/c/rag_and_bone)

funny how one of the most popular subs in reddit still don't have a vary active community in lemmy. Will sub for hope

Had to look up what "EMS" is, it's not referred to as this in my country and your "about" section didn't provide any more description - you might get more international users if you use a more general term like "emergency service workers" or "ambulance" or something like that

https://lemmy.world/c/tvtoohigh

Has sooo much potential. I can feel the memes flowing through it.

and subbed, after being in /r/hometheater it's good to see the core beliefs over here too. You're TVs are too high

Huh. I am positive these people would say my TV is too high. But, I like it where it is.

If I'm standing in front of the screen, it is at eye-height. If I'm reclining back on the lounge, I am looking up at it without having to cram my neck downward.

So, I basically disagree with this whole community's premise.

Copy-pasting my usual response to these threads:

I'm legally obliged to shill the various crafting communities, my two most used are !knitting@lemmy.world and !lemmy_stitch@sh.itjust.works but you can find lots more in the sticky thread in either of those.

Then there's also !imadethis@lemm.ee which has been a bit quiet lately so if you've made something, go show it off!

!downvotedtooblivion@lemm.ee for all the times karma attacks.

Have you been to !ergomechkeyboards@lemmy.world yet?

Not until now.

As an ipad user I wouldn't have anything to offer in terms of keyboards, sadly.

Guess I should've mentioned the guy who waltzed in and had a severe case of main character syndrome, would be a great story to share in your community

You (or anyone else) can share it there if you'd like.

As the current main mod there, I feel there'd be unwanted implications to myself doing any sharing, which is why I only posted the first post about the community itself.

All the ones I administer

waydroid@feddit.de

barefeet@feddit.de

4 posts in sum in those two communities

i guess satisfies the requirements:

  1. you like to share
  2. we may not know about

Yes; I just found it important context/properties of them

Some may be interested in growing them, others not

Barely any content also makes it less clear what it is or will be about, to what degree - and if there even will be more content.

To mods here at !asklemmy, I know this is on the edge of rule 3 and 4, I'm seeing a lot of newbie questions though and was hoping this could head off a thousand new posts of users asking what and how to use lemmy. Actually, I'm going to add some of that to the post.

Thanks for helping out the newbees by making this post.

Also shamless plug https://sh.itjust.works/c/machinist

A community about machining, and other various trade and manufactoring shenniagans.

Shameless plug for a community that I moderate because we need more folks!

!hockey@lemmy.ca

We even have a bot that posts the scores and basic stats of each NHL game.

I want to suggest !main@lemmy.ca , or !chatter@lemmy.ca (general topic discussion that's been kind of inactive), !general@lemmy.world, and other just general chat communities across servers that aren't memes and shitposts, just to give people a low bar of entry to talk about how they feel, what's going on in their lives (to the extent they wish to share).

Someone looking for general advice, share something cool that isn't yet part of any community (but it could help start one), ask a question that they feel isn't a good fit for asklemmy, newbs and forum veterans can talk about their experiences. I think it can foster contributions from power-posters, occasional posters, commentors and lurkers alike and grow the Lemmyverse organically.

I guess self promotion but if any anime fan wants to find out what anime that he found is from scenes or speech and so on, you can try and see if anyone ever responds on !whatanime@lemmy.world
