This Bike Is a Pipe Bomb

Bomb the Music Industry

Against Me!

Defiance, Ohio

Side Walk Slam

Whoa. Side Walk Slam. I heard their EP in middle school and then haven't thought about the since.

Literally me thinking of your top 3 alsoโ€ฆI guess we have to be friends now. Good picks!!

Leatherface

The GC5

The Murder City Devils

Propagandhi

Against all authority

Against me

The vindictives

Fuck you, it's a top 7 now.

Edit: Make it a top 8 because I do what I want, Hot Water Music

Edit 2: Shootout to Mitch Clem for introducing me to a bunch of not very well known bands... Also add Discount to that list, merry fucking Christmas bitches

Mischief Brew

Ramshackle Glory

Defiance, Ohio

Chumbawamba

AJJ

I cede to all accusations of being biased towards folk punk

No pat, wingnut dishwashers, or johnny hobo. Turn in your crustpants!

/s - obviously :)

The inclusion of Chumbawumba is scrambling my brain. Explain please.

Most people only know them from that one single that got popular back in the day. They've never been a pop band though. They're actually an anarchist art collective that's been around since the early '80s. The podcast Cool People Who Did Cool Stuff did two episodes on them. It's worth a listen. They're much cooler than you think they are.

Th@nk you for this kind mind explosion on a Friday.

No problem. They're one of those bands whose sound changes a lot over their career, and you wouldn't necessarily infer their beginnings from their later stuff, but if you go back and listen to their early albums like Ballots, or Pictures of Starving Children Sell Records, their punk cred is a lot more obvious.

  • NOFX (always will be my #1)
  • The Offspring (until '96)
  • Buzzcocks
  • Violent Femmes
  • Bad Religion

The Violent Femmes are in my top 5 but in what world would they be considered punk?

Discount

Misfits

Flogging Molly

Bikini Kill

Clash or Rancidโ€ฆ I canโ€™t decide!

  1. Dead Kennedys
  2. Against Me!
  3. Refused
  4. Cheap Perfume
  5. Lambrini Girls

Honourable mentions: Bad Religion and The Clash

REFUSED!!!! I discovered them way too late. They were a band ahead of their time!

I actually don't like the '90s stuff they made. Their album War Music in 2019 and the 2020 Malignant Fire single songs are amazing though, and I love Useless Europeans from the Freedom album as well.

If anyone else here ever tried Refused but didn't get it, try their modern stuff, it's way different, lyrics hit harder and the production sounds more similar to that loud Samurai feel in CP2077.

  1. Dead Kennedys

  2. NoFX

  3. Leftover crack/choking victim

  4. Black Flag

  5. Propagandhi

(Dishonorable mention to Justin Sane. Anti-Flag was a huge part of me developing my sense of ethics and social justice. Sad about what a dick he turned out to be.)

Rancid, Face to face, Nofx, Alkaline trio, Pennywise

I used to like anti flag, but fuck Justin sane, the rest of the band are fine but can't listen to his voice anymore. Fucking pedo.

NOFX Dropkick Murphy's Specials Green Day (for nostalgia) Fucked up

Aww. Old Green Day is great.

Misfits Minor threat Black flag Sex pistols Ramones

Honestly shocked how long it took to see someone mention Black Flag. Good picks!

Ebba Grรถn

De Lyckliga Kompisarna

Radioaktiva Rรคker

KSMB

Ramones

Bad Religion

Reggie And The Full Effect

Die Toten Hosen

Die ร„rzte

I can't believe that I scrolled the whole thread and didn't find Operation Ivy.

Well, they had one albums worth of songs then one member quit. Then other members just added Lars Fredrickson and became Rancid. Like, I love op-iv but rancid scratches that itch and people prob want some more diversity in their list.

The Clash

Stiff Little Fingers

Ramones

The Saints

Husker Du

In no particular order but still in my top 5:

Anti-Flag (RIP)

Billy Talent

Sum 41

NOFX

AFI's earlier stuff was my jam.

Gaslight Anthem

Satanic Surfers

Millencolin

Lawrence Arms

Luther

I've liked what I've heard of Lawrence Arms but didn't realize they were known as a punk band.

Screeching Weasel, NOFX, Pennywise, No Use For A Name, Rancid/Greenday for introducing me to punk.

ITT: A whole hell of a lot of people not knowing what punk is.

I was like this. It is the worst thing about the music scenes. I try not to be like this anymore.

1 more...

The Misfits

Local bands - U-Boats, Rat Cafeteria, No Fraud

And yes, I know not punk exactly but The Cramps above all of those.

Chumbawumba.

I don't like any other punk bands... so it'll just be them, then.
