Fighting against evil

Had it saved on my hard drive for years and recently re-discovered it. Seems to be from 2011 (!!)

Google is getting worse by the year, but it seems even back then some people were already seeing where things were going.

Here is another, more recent one: https://framapiaf.org/@davidrevoy/110786543576495517

A digital painting with expressive brush stroke of a cinematic scene in the same vein as the epic final battle of some movies or games. On the edge of a cliff getting disintegrated, we have a tiny fox, sword in hand, shield (icon of UBlock Origin) and its tail is in fire. It's Firefox. He pose in a defiant and combative way in front of a giant sphere: the Chrome logo, with a lot of energy, and probably in the middle of casting a big spell. This is a reference to Google Web Environment Integrity, a new major threat to the open web. License: CC-By 4.0

A uBlock Origin shield! Amazing.

David Revoy is a cool artist. He only uses free software for his work.

Holy fucking shit. Now I want this depicted in a short film

Chrome succeeded in killing Internet Explorer, but it turned out to be a Wheatley-Replaces-GLaDOS situation...

"COULD A MORON"

-Youtube gets anti adblock popup

"PUNCH YOU INTO THIS PIT?

-Playback gets stopped for people not giving up their private information

"HUH? COULD A MORON DO THAT?"

-Web integrity API destroys modern Internet

"Uh oh"

perfectly interpreted. this is fucking art. thank you.

I thought it was AI generated!!!

Google funds most of Mozilla, unfortunately.

Is this through donations, or through google search default?

From my understanding, this is from setting Google as the default search engine.

Honestly, I don’t blame them for taking it. The Mozilla corporation has done a lot of good for the modern internet.

Agreed. It's a shit system that needs reform or we all die, but for not it's all about lesser evils

I worry about many of Firefox's decisions (they've been going off script worryingly frequently), but funding the org with this one concession seems acceptable to me

they're also using Google location services instead of Mozilla ones by default (this only matters if you have disabled native os geolocation service)

So the fox is confused and fighting its own survival through battling its foe?

Didn't Microsoft prop up Apple at one point specifically to avoid becoming a monopoly and getting regulated as such?

Browser anime confirmed

Where y'all getting this bombass Firefox art? Never seen more in my life than on Lemmy. It's so raw

I love the ripples and airy feel of the tail and fog

I think its evil against corrupted at this point

Don't you dare say something informed while the circle-jerk is going on.

The art is nice, but it doesn't take away from the fact that you are spot on and some numbnuts vote you down. Story of the internet.

And because you gotta bring receipts: https://itdm.com/mozilla-firefox-usage-down-85-but-why-are-execs-salary-up-400/2050/

Honestly, Mozilla needs new leadership. The non profit is fine but the company has so much potential and could be way more profitable and useful. Instead of making things people want to buy or use they keep choosing the wrong path.

What they should do is partner with Nextcloud to bring a google drive competitor to the market. This wouldn't happen while they are receiving payouts by google

The hands must be bigger, so they can ripp all the data out of the victims.

For a second I thought the next PokΓ©mon game went Grimdark.

Can you all make one with a Red Panda?

This red panda thing is bolognium. Like I know the pandas are called Fire Foxes colloquially but the company themselves have said the icon is a fox. Because it is clearly a fox. These days the site is saying that Red Pandas "could be" an "unofficial" mascot for Firefox. That's nothing.

Because we knew in 2011 too but did anyone listen.. Ofc not.
